Birth of the Blues: Johnny Winter
It really speaks to young guitarists like me, when i start to wonder if there is any point in carrying on because im not going to be as good as i want, and this story is really motivating

I was saddened recently to see a video of Johnny on stage. He was helped out to the stage and then led to a chair where he sat and played. His playing was great, as always, but he looked so frail.
He's one of those guitarists whose personality is reflected in his playing. He can be soulful, funny, sad, and downright nasty, and I love it all. When I've got the blues, I listen to Johnny's "Hey You".
Makes me smile every time.

I like this guy...he overcame all the obstacles infront of him and became a legend.... Epic story

I just wanted to say that being 54 I have many memories of music of Both the Winter Boys. "They Only Come Out at Night" is probably the most memorable for me. The article was great and informative. Thanks for the great ride down memory lane.
