Hey everybody. I have a question about fingering arpeggios on my bass. When I am playing a major argeggio and I am trying to barre my pinkie to play the 5th and octave, The 3rd string from the root (where the octave is) falls under mt knuckle and I can't fret the string. I have tried rotating to play the barre with the side of my finger, but I can't find a position that works. When I try to finger the 2 notes on the separately I lose ALOT of speed. The best technique that I have found so far is to change positions and slide up the neck.

-----------------6--9----
--------------7---------- (This is muted under my 1st pinkie knuckle)
-------4--7--------------
----5--------------------
-------------------------

Any suggestions?

Are you going for speed here? Or just to play arpeggio at relatively normal speed?

Anyway, try these:

|--------2--|-------------6--9--|
|------2----|----------7--------|
|----4------|-------7-----------|
|--5--------|--5--9-------------|
|-----------|-------------------|

You could play the same notes differently a lot easier...

---------------6--9---
-----------7----------
--------7-------------
---5-9----------------
----------------------

This way your hand sits more ergomically plus you can barre the 7th frets with your index finger. Are you planning on picking these notes with a plectrum or plucking them?

Just realised CSchlegel suggested changing the fingering too!

Thanks guys. This fingering works alot better. The particular example that I was playing came from Back for Bass (Prelude #1), but I have encountered this problem before. I have tried a few different right hand approaches, and I like using a sweep with my thumb (and occasional flavor added by my index+middle fingers). I am a plectrum free bass player.
