Any one have some recommendations for a good distortion pedals?

Right now I have a Behringer multi unit and I really can't get a distortion tone I like on it. Most seem to come out sort of muddy no matter how much I adjust the unit or the amp.
I'm thinking just a disortion pedal alone would produce a better sound. I'm not a "warm, fuzzy" guy, I like a little more crunch to my distortion sound.
But also something that can produce a clean distorted sound, and not a jumbled mess.

A lot of guys like the Metal Zone by Boss, it doesnt do it for me but it does have a fairly wide set of crunch tones. Check out E-Bay for a Line6 DM4 (gold stomp box) - it has pretty much every pedal built in, some great tones and some not so great. Of all the pedals I've had , that one is the best. My personal favourite of the basic pedals is a Tube Screamer - great tones for lead and you can also get some solid rhythm.

Like the man said  , TubeScreamer is probably the best for tone lovers.

I just got myself a Damage Control Solid Metal it's a dual tube distortion pedal it has active EQ, I've never been so impressed with a distortion sound in person before I tried this. For me this pedal in combination with a good drive like a tube screamer will give me pretty much any distortion sound I can imagine from soft rock to full on metal.

Its pricey however i believe damage control makes the best distortion pedals around hands down.

The Solid Metal seems almost like a Pre-Amp from what I've seen and heard about it

Any way I suggest MI AUDIO Crunch Box. best tone from a pedal I've heard.

Damage control makes two "pre-amp"pedals they are they Womanizer and Demonizer they have a built in compression that acts like power tubes in combination with the sound you dial in.The Solid metal however is just a deluxe distortion pedal in which you would play into a clean tube amp for the best sound.

I'm using a solid state with it right now and it still kicks the crap out of anything else I've herd yet.

I use the distortion on my amp, as well as a Fulltone Fulldrive 2, mosfet. I would recommend the mosfet fulldrive to anyone in the world, even if they dont play guitar, just to show them how a great pedal looks, feels and sounds. I wouldn't sell it for the world.

That said, they're a lil pricey, tho not quite at the Damage Control Level (wanna get one of those one day...add it to my arsenal), I paid 200USD for mine, but it is a custom shop one from before they made standard Fulldrives with mosfet circuitry.
The current fulldrive 2 Mosfet should cost about 165USD.

Check it out, they're awesome

I found out about this company a few days ago that make vintage effects units and they have made a pedal based on the Tube Screamer TS808 called "The Creation" their pedals sound really nice and crunchy!

I've been reading up on effects lately and I realised suddenly that I haven't been using delay effects for my distortion. I used to only think of delay effects for the layering of notes and playing a counterpoint melody at the same time as your main melody... I always thought that the reverb, EQ and compressors took care of all the sustain and distortion handling.. now that I have added a subtle delay effect to my distortion sound even the reverb sounds better.

Seems to be the right thread to help with my problem... Hi everyone...

I play Ibanez RG370DX thru BOSS MT2 Metal Zone. And sure it does produce a pretty powerful crunch sound, but ONLY if I turn the guitar volume all the way up. That's fine for palm muting metal rhythm, but once I remove my hand from the strings, I get crazy feedback. it's squealing and screeching and driving me mad... and reducing the volume to the level were feedback fades weakens the sound substantially... does anyone else have this problem or it's just me? can it be cable? ...or apm? my cable is supposed to be ok but the amp is junk... some cheap 15W Fender...

Sorry if I'm asking an FAQ... Thanks...
