Alright. I've been listening to basically the same stuff for quite some time now, other than a few new songs here and there. Right now, it's basically the same old stuff, like SRV, Clapton, Derek Trucks Band, Pink Floyd, Phish, Joe Bonamassa, Hendrix, Gov't Mule, Allman Bros... and the list goes on. Also some stuff like Donovan Frankenreiter and Addison Groove Project are thrown in there. Some jazz influenced blues/rock and stuff. Anybody have some favorite bands of theres that they would kind enough to let me know about. I'm basically down for anything, but in this case lets try and keep it blues/rock, with a little jazz influence possibly as well. I love music, but I'm wearng out the stuff I've got now, and finding it hard to broaden my horizons. Any recommendations would be kindly accepted. Thanks.

Rush man. Start with Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures of Snakes and Arrows, then go from there.

It sounds like you'd really dig Jeff Beck. Start with the song 'Cause we're ended as lovers'. Just keep a change of pants close by.

Seems to be what I'll look into. Seeing as I've had my fair share of Rush, Return to Forever (love em), and Jeff Beck , who I also love. Ha, I think I could just as easily re-listen to all of these guys. Ha... Nahhhh. Keep em' coming!

hmmmm... Kinda more rock-ish than I'm looking for. Wasn't bad at all, just looking for more of a guitar led band i guess.

Pandora is specifically for this purpose. Type in Allman Brothers or any other band (or even specific song) you're into, and it'll play similar tunes by other artists. And you might create several stations of various bands/songs and 'quickmix' them all.

Otherwise, I suggest ZZ Top. I know Eliminator is prolly considered their crowning achievement, but I prefer the 70's era stuff more. The ZZ Top 6 Pack is a great buy if you find it...their 1st six albums on 3 discs. Otherwise, they're all good except for Afterburner or Recycler. And of course there's several greatest hits collections and a fairly recent compilation, "One Foot in the Blues".

Also, for a more obscure recommendation, let me suggest The Hellecasters. Pandora played them on my Eric Johnson station, as they're strictly instrumental, and of course play the 'hell' outta their Tele's. I've yet to buy their albums yet, but from what I hear on Pandora, I love 'em. Now I've made their own station there and it's my new favorite.

Have you tried usenet newsgroups? They're a great source for discovering new stuff. Just download a few hundred tunes and listen through. When you find something you like, go buy the album.
(also a great source for finding studio outtakes, live bands and rare recordings)

Shnice. I'll try out that Pandora thing and see how it goes. I've got a bunch of Dead stuff as well as some ZZ top, and assorted Umphrey's McGee tunes. Man. I guess I've just listened to a lot of music over the past couple of years. I think I might just try to get into single groups now. I've been kinda skimming through select songs of some bands. But who knows, as of a month ago, Joe Bonamassa was non-existent. Now he's like one of my all time favorites.

edit: Well, two songs into my Derek Trucks Band Station, and I'm digging what I'm hearing. Some Todd Thibaud dude. Whom I've never heard of. Pretty good stuff though. Very cool concept. I'll definitely be on here a lot. Thanks.

Saying yes to this. As stereotypical 90's rock band as they are, they kinda rip. The guitarist definitely has some chops, too.

Pandora radio has come up huge. I've already found a few bands I really like. Electromagnets with lenny White. They're basically Return to Forever, but I love return to forever, so it works out. Anders Osborne is another who I found to be pretty good. There are countless songs of random artists that I now love too. I just gotta pony up some dough and see if I can't buy some of the albums.

Unfortunately, in July now, it looks like Pandora and most other internet radio statios are going to be closing down.

I don't know just how eclectic your tastes are but I'll throw some stuff into the mix for you:

Son House
Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials
Lil' Charlie and The Nightcats
T-Bone Burnett
John Waites
R L Burnside
The Fabulous Thunderbirds
South Side Johnny and The Asbury Jukes
Susan Tedeschi
Los Lobos
Buddy Guy
Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown
The Band
Johnny Winter
Howlin' Wolf
Muddy Waters
Jimmy Johnson
John Lee Hooker

etc...etc.

Like I said, I don't know how eclectic your tasts are so you may not like any of these but they are worth a listen. At least once.
