Hi Friends !

Is it ok if I connect my Electric to the computer (line-in) thru a BOSS Metal Zone Pedal ? Will it harm the Computer or the Sound Card ? Kindly advice regarding this.

Also wanted to get some suggestion / views about the Boss Metal Zone. I'm planning to buy one today - is it a good one to learn Heavy Metal on ?

Kindly advice.

Regards
Kush

It won't harm your computer at all... no.

The Boss pedals are all pretty good and the Metal Zone is one of their more popular ones. It's a great metal pedal.

...always get a kick out of that.

anyways, unless you have a real nice sound card, if you connect strait from the dist. into it, it'll sound muddy and like crap. you really need some EQ or something.

It wont harm your computer I use to do this with my Digitech DF-7 the tone wasn't great directly into the computer IMO. But the zoom G-Series multi Fx with usb sound great for there price. ;)

I have a Metal zone, it rocks! It takes a bit of tweaking to get the sound that's right for you. Just remember the eq on your amp will affect the way it sound too, it can make it sound really bright or really muddy. I recommend buying one though. :)

I use the ZOOM G series with USB connection.

You get a heap of amp models/simulation. It also has the BOSS Metal Zone model in it too, and sounds pretty much identical.

I reckon it's good for the price.

What you want to do is try to get a nice clean signal into the PC right? Well I think just using a Metal Zone pedal itself will cause a lot of unwanted noise so you would want to use a noisegate with it, and also some compression too.

Unless you dont have any of these pedals, I reckon get something like the Zoom G series or similar as you get nice clear signals from the unit with Drive amp models(Metal Zone), compression and Noise reduction which is a great thing Zoom has.

Good luck

metal head for about 13 years, playing music about 11 years...MY personal opinion, stay away form the metal zone. It has its ups and downs, i would suggest getting it if you have a heavy guitar, and heavy amp....otherwise it has way to much fuzz....if you lack equipment...try and jam with one in a small basement...it'l sound like one hiss when the drums go. however, rig it up through somthing like a pod XT or any other multi level effects pedal, then you can put some delay on it compression, noisegate, and really get that heavy sound....or you can buy the individual pedals..like an EQ pedal, delay pedal...depends what your budget is and how you want to approach it...or get both...why not?

hope this helped at all...remeber its my opinion...it was my first pedal and i had it for years...but i still don't like it :)

...The Boss MZ cleans up nicely with a Monte Allums Mod. If you're handy with a soldering iron you might give it a try. Check out monte allums dot com for a cheap high quality mod kit. It's def. worth the time and $. Should help with direct recording too.
Hope this helps

You CAN harm your soundcard by connecting direct through a distortion pedal. I blew two soundcards this way. It's safer to use they battery than powering from the mains expecially if you don't know an awfull lot about grounding.
I'm not an expert on this but some soundcards may not be designed for that type of input - I blew one before just by connecting the jack even with the volume on everything turned down (regular Creative Labs) - the line in sent a charge into the soundcard that fried it. A specialist card is fine though, especially if it's designed for taking guitar via 1/4" connection.
Check the forum on the website for whatever soundcard you have just to be sure. Better to be safe than sorry...

I'm pretty sure I have connected out of my distortion pedal once or twice. It worked fine, but you can't hear what the effect sounds like until you playback the recording. At least thats what happened for me.
