I was wondering what suggestions you all had for this; I am looking for a new acoustic. My budget is around $200. (I am squirreling away money for a nice Taylor some day but not just yet). Recommendations?

I would imagine that some may shun me for saying this. But have you thought of looking around in some pawn shops for an acoustic? "Sometimes" you can come across some really good deals!! Just last year I picked up a Schecter Gryphon for $200 in a local pawn shop. They list for $499 I think new.

Oh yeah, I agree. Trouble is, here in PA, we don't have pawn shops per se. We have places that buy used/estate stuff and then sell them marked up but there's no 'dealing' in places like that. Example; I went to this one guy I know and he had a basic Yamaha acoustic for $149.00 Couldn't deal on it. I checked on ebay and at Guitar Center. I could have bought new for around the same price. At it's a basic dreadnought. I have my Washburn dread and want something with a little better sound/feel.

Thanks for the thought though.

Hm... 200 bones isn't much to work with for acoustic guitars. They're very pricey instruments... Unlike electrics they're generally a lot more labor intensive when they're being made so there's not much middle ground as far as quality. You either get a stellar instrument or you get a chep instrument. There are some out there.... Check musiciansfriend.com to get an idea of what's available in your price range. You can sort the guitars by price.

Yamaha has a few guitars that are in that price range. Their "low end" or budget acoustics are actually very nice. Check out the FG700. It's $199.99 and was the first guitar I ever owned. It's got a solid Sitka spruce top and sounded just great.

Look on Craigslist.com. You can often find great deals on all kinds of equipment. I sold my amp and bought a new one through craigslist. A lot of people use it to try to sell their stuff quickly (i.e. price is low)

I totally agree. I have bought several things on Craigslist and had good results. I prefer it to eBay any day.

That is the reason I recommended the pawn shop hunting because of your budget. I think if it were me I would wait and continue to save some more money. I remember being younger buying those "cheap" guitars and wishing I would have waited and bought something a little better.

I am starting to think that you're right. I will just wait it out. The only thing I found was an Ibanez acoustic/electric for about $250 but I think I'll just hold out for my Taylor or Martin.

I don't disagree with the other guys - good acoustics cost serious money... but....

I have been consistently surprised by the quality of Washburn acoustics at the lower price points. They may be worth a look while you're waiting for the Taylor...
