Can anyone tell me how good those POD gadgets are? I'm thinking of trading in my Digitech RP12 for one.I play in a cover band down here in Australia, and was wondering how the pod would handle all the different styles i play in my band, which is everything from backstreet boys to wheatus. Can anyone give me some advice on this POD,which i've heard a lot about.

Hmmm . . . well, first of all, they don't suck.

And second of all, to answer your question, guitarmik, the POD has a ton of amp models built in, in addition to the effects, so if you like to play a lot of different styles the POD would be a better choice than distortion pedals.

Well Dimebag, there seems to be a theme running in your posts; that really intelligent and informed sort of discussion that everyone here loves. Yes, you're right, everything sucks, I feel so stupid that I hadn't realised it before. Can we start a section of this forum dedicated to these god-like offerings of wisdom, which I, personally, feel unworthy of.

Well Guitarmik, considering that you currently use the RP12 I'd say that would be a very good investment on your part. Pretty much everything Line 6 has put out in the past couple of years has gotten a lot of good reviews. Not only their processors but their amps as well.

Hi Guitarmik,

I understood that the POD was more of a home recording device. I looked at one at my local guitar shop and it had some great features but it didn't look like it would stand up to serious gigging. The guy in the shop was quite adamant that you're not supposed to use your feet to change settings! I ended up with a BOSS GT-3 which I'm very happy with.

I agree with BadHorsie, with an RP12 you're well equipped.

POD's are great for home recording, but also work great as a tone shaping device in front of an amp. Considering you play a wide variety of styles, this sounds like it might be the right choice.

Hmmmm...
i agree it will be great for doing the different styles but the problem is changing between patches, as its only a small button. i have a BOSS ME-33 for that reson as it sounds brill and u can easily acsess loads of sounds. one idea would be to get the foot board with the pod. then u can select loads of sounds without wearing out your knees

The Line6 floorboard would be the thing to get to go along with the POD. It has volume and wah pedals, a chromatic tuner, foot switches, and it plugs right into the POD, with no need for external power.

I've been wanting one for a long time for my Line6 amp, but I just haven't had the cash.

I went and saw Eric Johnson in a VERY low key performance...I had a perfect view of his pedals and effects...All he had was a chorus pedal and a POD. Good stuff...he had killer tone that night.

Thanks guys for the info,i'm certainly looking into it.
My RP12 is definately great but i get sick of having to adjust all the parameters, for the songs i do,even though i love the thing i'm looking for something that is easier to program, and i think by the sounds of it the POD may be the answer

I have a line6 flextone which is basically a pod with speakers- it's great I haven't found too many tones that I can't copy and I have come up with some great ones of my one. It's really great for home recording as well. It is very easy to use you will not be dissapointed . Consequentally, I was getting ready to put down some big cash for an expensive tube amp but after I plugged in the flextone and saw it's flexible effects, tones, amp models etc.. compared to the Marshall's and boogies I tried I really couldn't see spending the extra money to get less.
I would still like to have a nice tube amp yes but I haven't felt limited in any way so far.

I also have the bass pod and love this little beast. It's great for jamming with headphones. I've done it while riding in the car on long trips I wish I had the Pod for the same kind of electric jam sessions.

Recently had an opportunity to spend an hour (in a Demo room at MARS) with the new Fender Cybertwin.
Has all of the amps and voices that I could think of - and it's real easy to dial them in!!! :-0
Unfortunately it costs BIG BUCKS!!.

I think the Pod-2 or the GT-6 would be great!
I think the Pod-2 lists for $439.99 but can be bought,
for $299.99 thro Musiciansfriend,com
I just ordered the GT-6 for $395.99 list $495.00
What ever you get like Pod-2 or ME33 they all should,
do the job i've heard them all and any one of them,
would do a great job for you.
I will admit i almost bought the Pod-2 thier real close,
for affects.

i dont have the footboard that goes with it tho..

if you go to line6 dot com..there are
presets..that people submit...
you can download these to your pod

if you wanna hear some recordings i made
with my pod...llet me know
-G

i agree with many of the points here...
other than the "it sucks" one..
it is good for recording...
get a footboard if you wanna gig...
it rocks
