I can help you number one tune it right.

E (Biggest string)
A (2nd Biggest)
D (3rd Biggest)
G (3rd Thinnest)
B (2nd Thinnest)
E (Thinnest string)

Secondly if you are still taking lessons don't write. It'll mess you up.
Just practice chords for a few months then get some scales then some songs then go to sweep arpegios and writing.

agreed...if you're just starting off its good to pick up basic chords first..build finger strength and dexterity...they will help you get an idea of how you want your song to sound like then u can work arnd them..but that takes time..so be patient... :)

Yea dam I've been playin for a while and I really still can't write unless I'm bored horny and hungry. And that is very often but I still don't come up with good stuff.
Mainly when you start just work on finger strength with chords and dextarity. And when you decide to start writing write about random **** and life.

Agree with everyone else; also, there are some good lessons here on GT about music theory which you could read. If there's anything you're not sure about, just ask a question in the relevant section - there's always plenty of people willing to help out.

Most importantly of all, don't give up. It could take days, weeks - maybe even months, (took me nearly four months to work out how to play from tabs for example), but it will eventually click. Remember, everyone started somewhere, so don't be too put-off if it doesn't happen straight away. Just stick with it and don't be afraid to ask for help.

Hope that's of some use!
Don't worry too much about me, ignore me long enough and I'll go away.
