since playing guitar ive been in quite a few bands, almost all of which i have fronted or written the material. as far as writing lyrics, very rarely should it be forced to the point of having to hit your head against the wall for inspiration. however, it comes easier than others. being a creative writer or just a quirky one at that comes in handy alot of times. dont be afraid to be critical, but dont slam yourself if your songs dont have an awesome hook or the best content in the world. it comes with practice and alot of experimentation. however, i my biggest inspiration for writing is to walk through your day with an open eye to other people, and other people's points of views and day-to-day struggles. all your songs dont have to be exactly what you did today, or about your porker of a girlfriend you had when you where 15. think intellectually, and that doesnt mean just be sappy. some songs require it, others dont. my first bands where punk rock and roll bands, and ive got to say that most the lyrics where cliche, revolving around skating on people's porches and molesting kids or whatever. some genres are harder than others, but like i said, dont force it. nothing annoys people more than musicians who have the talent to play a genre of music but are far from looking/making the part. cough*whiteguitarnerdspeopleplayingfunk*cough
