Hi,

Couple of guys helped me out here ;o) and there. So, I bought myself this baby: Ibanez RG1570 with a color that grabs the attention of the chicks! I thought it sucked first; but hey, it helps, man!

Here's my question: After migrating from RG270 to RG1570, I noticed the following. Yeah, 1570 sounds way better on clean. However, it turns out it is harder to get great tones on distortion. One of my pals, told me about tweaking and 'finding your tone!' Man, I didn't tweak my RG270 or anything and that was my tone. Where the hell is it now?

Thanks!

Well, that's the thing - you're never going to get the same tone that you had with your old RG. But what sort of tone was it? Was it really cutting with a big high-end, warm with emphasis on the mids, or dark and smooth with the bass cranked? I don't think you will be able to avoid the sometimes-torturous process of "tweaking" to find the sound you like.

dude you dont have to buy new pups. you can like raise and lower the pickups to get a different sound, or screw/unscrew the pole pieces.. but its harder to screw around with the pole pieces than to 'find your tone'.

i'm sayin if you liked the sound of your old ibanez and they had ibanez pickups then changing pickups won't solve your tone quest.. but you might have to change em if they're not the same type of pickups.

if you still have your old guitar, you could try swapping the pickups around. you don't have to buy new ones that way, and it might solve your problem... you can always put them back the way they were if it doesn't work...

just because they are both Ibanez's doesnt mean they still are the same guitar. no two guitars will ever sound exactly the same. thats to be expected.

alot of your tone actually comes out of your amp. before you go drastic and change out your pups, just play with your settings.

also, try playing with your tone and volume knobs on your guitar.

Hi there,

Thanks for all the great advice, guys. I can see that I have to learn more about pickups and techniques to tweak electric guitars / amps. Can you suggest a good site?

By the way, the only differences between my old and new guitars seem to be the following:

1. New one has a 3 piece neck
2. New one has V7-S1-V8 pickup configuration. The old one had noname pickups.

Thanks!

I agree with Rockonn. Play around with your amp and your effects units before you start taking your guitar apart.
