That's funny, that's what I always say to you. Then I remember I also have none, so my point is no longer valid.
You go outside and practice screaming. We'll play music while you're gone.

"American Pie" always gets the crowd to sing along. We do a rock version of it that the crowd always seems to compliment on... Songs that people can sing a long to are always huge hits... it gets the crowd into it. But like I said earlier... sometimes you have to sell out and play songs that you don't like... because you're there to please the crowd... not the other way around. So whatever you think they would be into. Even if it means you're playing for a group of 12 year old girls and all they want to hear is Kelly Clarkson...

See, that's where acapella's opinions and mine differ, I think. He's all for pleasing the crowd, even if it means playing garbage, whereas I am not. Why should I learn to play horrible songs I don't like just to please people? If you don't like what I play, you don't have to listen. That's just the way I see it.

Until people pay to see you... You're there for their enjoyment... not yours. It's sad but true man. I've been to some frat parties where bands literally get ran off stage because all they want to do is play their original songs that no one has ever heard... Most people aren't into that. If they're at a party they want music they know... something they can sing along to and dance to.

But as was said... Try to mix in a few songs that you really enjoy playing. But don't lose the crowd because a lot of times crowds make snap judgements right away... and you'll have to do some major work to reel them back in. Plus.... I garauntee that when you have 50+ people singing a long with you... or moshing... or reacting to what you're playing... you're going to have the time of your life even if you're playing When I Come Around by Green Day

That's odd. You'd think it'd be the other way around. If they're paying, then you should do what they ask. If they're not, why would you play for their enjoyment and not your own?

I meant... paying to hear YOUR songs. The songs you choose. Think about it... when you go to a concert you're paying to hear the band play songs they want (in most cases) to play. You go there becasue you like their music... not because they just so happened to be the band that got chosen to play the concert.... No body is going to pay 50 dollars for a lawn seat to listen to some garage band play songs no one has ever heard of..... They pay to listen to songs because they like them. And on the other end of the spectrum... You can't expect people to Pay a cover charge to listen to music they don't like. That's what I was trying to say... but in much much fewer words... I guess I could have said... Until you make a platinum record... chances are people aren't going to want to pay to listen to you play what you want to play. They want to be entertained to their own tastes

Yeah yeah yeah! I like how this guy thinks. See earthman? We need to do what others want to hear, to someday be able to play our own, good music, and be paid for it. Otherwise we'll never get anywhere.

I've told you like a thousand times, I don't care if we ever get anywhere. I just like playing.

EXACTLY!!

But, Earthman is right. because, the people pay to go see the concert. the band plays what the crowd wants to hear, and that just happens to be their music. if their music was not what the crowd went there for, then the crowd wouldnt have payed $50 to hear some bs that they cannot sing and dance to cause theyve never heard it before.

earthman was right. if they're not paying you, you might as well play something you enjoy. but that doesnt mean the crowd cant enjoy it either. if you play something jumpy, you know, with a fast beat, you'll get people jumping even if theyve never heard it before. but at your skill i recommend doing covers for the crowd.

covers that are popular. in this case it seems like modern rock/alternative. play some soft songs, play some metal (modern) songs. you please everybody.

earthman says its a dance they're going to. so, they DID pay to get in, because they paid for tickets/admission. they probably didnt pay to see you, but you still have to please them because they came to dance, not for you. BUT you can use this at your advantage. play some songs they like *well* and they will love your band. youll notice alot more people noticing you in the hallways. so if you want popularity.. well some.. or at least more people to notice/respect you, not saying that you already are not noticed and respected, then go to the dance and play some music for them, not for you.
