Im in need of a new amp, quite badly acctually, ive been playing for 13 years and ive still only got my crappy hohner rockwood 15watt amp (laughable really).
For my budget (£200-250) im split between the line6 and the valvetronix.

Ive listened to both the online samples and to my ears the Vox sounds abit better....

http://www.line6.com/spiderii/sounds01.html

http://www.voxamps.co.uk/products/valvetronix/vt_audition.htm

Now the obvious answer would be to go with what i myself like the sound of.
But i read so many posts (in a few sites) saying how good the Spider is (better than the Vox some people say too)
Plus the guitars used on the website sounds bugger all like mine, it sounds like they are useing a strat to me, whereas i have a Epiphone les paul (a good one i might add) 10 years old, sounds great (untill i plug it in that is)

So if someone could help me get through the marketing mumbo jumbo and tell me what the best amp is outta those two i'd be very happy. Maybe they are as good as each other i dunno.....

I would try one out in a shop, but there just aint the shops where i live that stock either of them!!

Just to add...
I dont really need the FX that comes with either of the amps tho, so maybe there is another option all together?

I dont really have a style or sound i prefer i just want a decent amp, that i can get a wide range of sounds out of, thats kinda why im steering towards these modeling amps...

I LOVE radiohead and they use VOX AC30TB (aswell as others)
But i love system of a down too (daron uses marshalls now, but has used mesa's and Carvins in the past)

So yeah i just want an amp that is versitle, but convicing at the same time,
id rather have 2 good tones rather than 15 bad ones....

Sry for such a long post, i dont get out much!

thanx in advance,

Adey

Yeah thats what i though (judging by the samples).

The Vox just seems too have a bit more beef, the spider sounds a bit flakey.

I also use a zoom player 3000 (*A what?*)

Dunno if theyre made anymore, but ill prolly have to ditch that too on my jouney to tone heaven :(

Ohwel!l at least talent is free eh?

I use a 2 x 12 150 watt Spider II and love it. It is very versatile and makes recording easy if you don't have any decent mics ( you can plug in directly ).

Although the tone is not tube or the highest quality ever, its definately worth the money I paid. The range of genres one can play is very wide and I would only trade this amp in if I had the money for a high quality tube amp ( Mesa/Marshall ).

It's all up to you, but my vote is definately Line 6.

P.S. It still sounds better than 90% of the SS amps out there. ( Modeling rocks )

if you dont need the effects, then why pay for an amp that has them, you could get a far nicer non-digital amp for that money.
Maybe a nice tube combo (peavey Vintage 30's are nice...they in that price range).

I would hunt around for that sort of thing and not waste time and money on feautures I wouldnt use

yeah i guess your right, it just the modeling feature that drew me in, the diversity,

But a good amp will always be adaptable i guess, i'll have another googling session and check out the PV + others in that price range,

thanxx guys
