The Alesis looks okay, but you might want something with an expression pedal. I have a Digitech RP80, which I love to death; a bit more expensive, but worth every dollar and then some. The Behringer X V-AMP also has an expression pedal, is a bit cheaper, and has more amp models than the Digitech, but doesn't have as many modulation effects.

It is one great piece of gear. Thanks again eric for opening my eyes to it.

I've always wondered this.

If you have a big bad all-tube amplifier...

...and you run into it a digital FX pedal type thingy like a POD or Digitech footsie-station or something...

...would that make your tube amp sound... not so tube-like? As in, digitial, synthetic, computerized... or something?

Or not?

I'm unclear on some things.

i think that depends entirly on what you use, something like a pod xt live should sound amazin with one wheres a cheap or poorly made effects proccesor will porbably digitize it

I used to run a POD 2.0 into the effects return of a Peavey Classic 50 (bypassing the amps preamp), and it sounded lovely. The POD's already have a tubeyness to them, which accompanied by a real tube amp, sounds killer.

Gotcha.

So having a POD type thingy is better than having fifty-zillion pedals? As in, doesn't weaken your signal as much?

Can you run a wah pedal through such a unit?

I was thinking of doing that. Do I have to hook up both cables, or just from the left output to the return?

I run my cry baby in front of it and it sounds the same. But the only difference is that when I try the Morello thing where you unplug the guitar cable and enguage the wah, then touch the cable to something metal on the guitar, it sounds god awful.

A POD's main use is for different types of amp tones. The POD 2.0 has a few usefull effects, but I prefer using individual pedals. If you want a dedicated effects unit to use with your amp, the I would probably suggest something like the Boss ME-50.

[QUOTE=elklandercc]I was thinking of doing that. Do I have to hook up both cables, or just from the left output to the return?

To do this, plug your guitar into the POD, then the POD's left out into your amps effects return jack. Don't plug anything into the effects send, or the main input of the amp. This will bypass your amps preamp, since the effects loop comes after the preamp in the signal path. This way, you don't have to worry about your amp coloring the tone of the POD. You'll probably want to turn the cabinet modeling off, and turn the A.I.R switch on the top of the POD to "amp".
