I thought I'd lost this thing :)
We're talking 1986 here with my very first 4 track and the first Midiverb ever manufactured.
Done on a Fostex 250 using Maxell II tape and Dolby C.
It's supposed to be a take-off of a Roberto Jeans commercial but I used my own lyrics so, no kiddies allowed.
I think it was:
Channel 1: Drums (Yamaha RX11 Drum Machine)
Channel 2: Bass
Channel 3: Guitar
Bounced down to channel 4 with live guitar synth:
then...
Channel 1: Harmony
Channel 2: Harmony
Bounced down to channel 3 with a live harmony
then...
Channel 1: voiceover
Channel 2: voiceover

I loved it man. It was a total pain in the arse to use cause the capstan never engaged properly so I'd get these 'wow' sounds all the time.
I hit the thing so many times there were dents in it, and none of the controls had any buttons cause they'd all broken off.
It was a hell of a lotta fun tho..
This was back in the days when 4 tracks were brand new technology.
I think this thing cost me about $1400

I used to bounce to a VHS tap as I had heard it was much Hight fidelity (having a faster tape speed and all) than a regular tape machine.
It was great in theory however.. the VHS didn't have a tape counter and I swear I spent half my time just cueing stuff up !
I did have nice compression though !
I still have a Revox A77 kicking around the UK somewhere. That is as old as I am and a great bit of kit !

Years ago when I worked at an audio store, a guy brought in a 'used' pulse code modulator. We figured it was obviously stolen but we took it as trade-in anyways for $200.
It was a Sony PCM-701ES and the way it worked was you hooked it up to any VCR (even a mono one) and it used the video track to record a digital signal in stereo at either 14 or 16 bit. It worked great so I bought it for myself. (still have it)
And for sure, it works amazingly. I've still got old Beta tapes from the studio back in 1993 that are as good as new. At one point I took all my old CD's and recorded them onto video tape as digital so I could get 6 hours of music on each tape. Course, then new technology came along and screwed everything up.
Anyways, I used to use the PCM to take 4 tracks of audio from the fostex, and mix it down to stereo, then use the extra 2 tracks for vocals.
It's outdated now, but I still keep it around.

I have an MJ tape striper / reader that would pump MMC out the other end hanging around somewhere.
I was a nice bit of kit but getting a lock was sometimes a problem!
