I used to bounce to a VHS tap as I had heard it was much Hight fidelity (having a faster tape speed and all) than a regular tape machine.
It was great in theory however.. the VHS didn't have a tape counter and I swear I spent half my time just cueing stuff up !

I did have nice compression though !

I still have a Revox A77 kicking around the UK somewhere. That is as old as I am and a great bit of kit !
