i came across a notation for a slide that looked like this 7/9\7, there was a slur above the first slide from the 7th to the 9th fret, but there wasn't a slur above the 2nd slide from the 9th to the 7th fret. i learned that the slur indicated that you didn't strike the target note of the slide while no slur meant that you struck the second note. but if it's notated 7/9\7 and there's a slur above the first slide and no slur above the second slide, then would you slide up to the 9th fret and strike the note before sliding back down to the 7th fret.....or would you slide up to the 9th fret and then without striking the 9th fret note, slide back down to the 7th fret?
i have the same question for if the notation is 7/9\7 and there are no slurs above any of the slides

srry my last post was a little confusing....i revised it to make it clearer:

for a slide, does 7/9\7 indicate that you slide up to the 9th fret from the 7th fret, then pick the 9th fret note before sliding back down to the 7th fret?....or does it indicate that you slide up to the 9th fret from the 7th fret, then slide back down to the 7th fret w/out picking the 9th fret note? also, would you pick the 7th fret note after you slide back down from the 9th fret?
i also learned that a slur over the slide indicates that the note that you slide to isn't picked, but if there is not a slur, then the note that you slide to is picked. how does this affect my previous question? for example if i had a slide notated 7/9\7, and the slide up to the 9th fret had a slur but the slide from the 9th fret to the 7th fret did not have a slur, then what would this indicate in relation to my 1st question? srry if this is a little confusing

Yes, if the slur is above the first 7 and 9, slide from the 7 to 9 thand pick the 3rd note just as you slide back to it.

Personally, I'd just say screw it and slide back to the 3rd note without picking it, it's no big deal.

What song did you see this in?

Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

i saw it in a tab for "cocaine" by eric clapton in a guitar world magazine. it's right in the beginning for the guitar 3 part. it's notated 7/9\7 w/ a slur over the first slide (7/9) im just not sure how 2 play this....would i play the note on the 7th fret, then slide up to the 9th fret and w/out picking the 9th fret note slide back down to the 7th fret and pick the 7th fret note? i listened to the song, but i can't make out the 3rd guitar part

Cocaine! Holy evil Jesus! The most beaten dead horse in the guitar world. My advice is write your own song and leave Cocaine to the wankers at Guitar Center.
