So... a month ago when I went back to England and rented out my basement apartment to a college student. I get back a few days ago, and just about freak at the disgusting mess left behind. I charged a cleaning deposit of $500 to clean the place up cause when I left, it was totally spotless .... like new carpet... dusted, showroom quality etc.. Even the fireplace was cleaned out and sweeped.
Anyways... this is what I came home to. There was even a gutar string broken so I know somebody used it.
Now he's saying I'm trying to rip him off for charging for the cleaning deposit.

I didn't even make it thru all the pics. Hell yeah charge him. You could have given him the option of recooping some of the deposit by doing it himself. Other than that you should have no problem in court with those pics.

I started cleaning up behind the counter and there's little slugs on the carpet and moths flying up over all the place.
I set a beer down in a glass and when I went back to drink it there were two fruit flies slitting in it.
there's little flies everywhere.... gawd......... I'm dry heaving just cleaning this crap up.
If I find a dead mouse i'm gonna heave big time.

Or he's just a general asshole that doesn't think about any of his actions and just wades through life as though he's the center of everything and the moment something inconveniences him he's ready to beat someone up about it because if he can't prove he's right with his intelligence alone then surely people will believe him if he hurts someone. Schmange buddy, I would charge this guy more than 500 bucks myself. He had no right to trash your place like that man. Not to mention he played your guitar and broke a string on it. That's getting a little too personal for my liking. I would be serving this guy a size 13 if it were my pad and then make him clean it up and pay the 500 bucks. You are a nice guy to let him off for only 500 bucks.

There's little slugs under the garbage like you see on CSI when somebody's died.....
Then there's black bugs crawling around all around the kitchen area.
I'm walking through the the apartment and there's moths flying around and little fruit flies.... and under the couch there's dead bugs and silver fish.
I was sitting real still and heard a mouse run across the attic.......
So, if I grab this asshole and rub his nose in all the garbage and swatt his face with a newspaper would I be justified??

Not only should you make him pay for the pest exterminator you'll need, but get him to help out with the extermination. I mean, how bloody slack can you get? Sure, the average male uni student is more than a little sloppy, but the average human being couldn't bear to let their place of habitation get so filthy.

I would tell him he has to pay up. Give him very little time to pay, then take it to court when he doesn't. There's a damn fine chance you'll win with them pics. He'll have to pay court costs too, right? That'd teach him. I wouldn't threaten him or beat him up because if you DO take it to court it'll come back to haunt you.

2: pay the $500 (which seems such a little charge for such a big mess)
3: take it up in court, and try to plead to the judge about why you don't need to pay $500 when you literally would have had to been purposely trashing the place to get it to look like that.
