Well, as many of you saw in an earlier thread, I'm going to change my pickups. I think I've decided to go with the Texas Fender Pickups, but a new thought occured to me. Humbucker? Should I? I mean, I'll be playing mainly like pop/rock/alternative, classic rock, and I want a good clean sound too. The Humbucker would go in the bridge pickup. But also...I don't really know if I can even put in a humbucker with my mexican strat.... But if i can, do you guys think i should?

There are quite a few "minibuckers" that will fit in a strat single coil space. Look on ebay. I think if a humbucker is what you want then go for it!!

Yeah, it's totally possible! EMG makes some sweet pickups like that. I say go for it! I have a set of EMG 81/85's in my Jackson and I still get clean tones and tones as dirty as I want too. ;)
I am a constant evolving music machine. Oh Man, I just forgot what I was playing. Oh well, on to the next song.

I say go out and play a fat strat. If you like how it sounds in the bridge then go for it. You can alway's have a switch installed that will allow you to split the humbucker into a single coil. If you remove the pickguard of your strat I believe you will find that it is already routed for humbuckers in the bridge and neck position. Don't quote me on that, but I believe all their bodies are routed like that.

[QUOTE=Server Message]Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

that's kinda funny actually.. :D

btw, you can still get clean sounds out of a humbucker.. they just won't sound exactly the same as a single.. but you can still get some awesome clean sounds out of a bucker. it's preference really..

Do you know where you could get such a switch installed and approximately how much it would cost? And would it work with any type of humbucker?

Depends on the switch you want. You got your regular on/off toggle. You can also get a push pull switch like a volume or tone knob. I think you need four conductor wired humbuckers to tap them but there may be others. I know there are some you can't tap.

switches - $5.61-12.53
pencil soldering iron - $20
some internet searching - $time
time - priceless

this site may help (not sure, I didn't read the whole thing).. what you want to do is phase switching for the bridge pickup. if not, then just do some internet searches on phase switching.. you should find something pretty easily.

if you insist on having it done professionally (now where is the fun in that? ) then it shouldn't be too expensive. I wouldn't pay more then $40 to have it done.. I mean, all they have to do is drill a small hole in the pickguard, install the switch, de-solder, and then resolder some wires. and you're done. and the tech has probably done this mod enough times to be able to do it in like 20 minutes or less. of course, the price may be a bit higher if you don't provide the switch. this is assuming you already have a humbucker in the bridge too.. and that he doesn't need to put that in as well.

I think people should think about things to digest it themselves before they go and ask a question like this.

The question is, do YOU want a humbucker?

My answer, How the hell do WE know if YOU want a humbucker.

It seems nobody bothers with the trial and error method anymore. Buy a single and play it, if you like it, great. If you don't, well..now you know what you DON'T want.

Opinions are opinions. Our opinion may be different than someone elses. Thats why questions like these are so hard to answer. This guy likes them, this guy doesn't. Does that answer your question as to whether or not you want a humbucker? I don't think so. If your going to be playing a fat strat, good for you. But before you decide what guitar your going to play, shouldn't you at least try it out first?
