I think when you set out to play something and then say, I'm not playing it exactly like Eddie, well then your not playing the song. If you don't play the exact notes in eruption then your not playing eruption. It's pretty simple really. :rolleyes:

As for being more complex than Eddie, maybe someday in your wildest dreams. :D
I am a constant evolving music machine. Oh Man, I just forgot what I was playing. Oh well, on to the next song. :rolleyes:

I said the riff was more complex than the one he was doing. One riff, chill.

So, in the end, what I did was play a song based off of Eddie's. I'm now happy. :rolleyes:

Anyway, would any of the people in this thread like to come out and say they could play it? I love hearing other people play it. (While I laugh at them thinking how much better I can do. :rolleyes: )

Have I come off as a dick yet? No? Damn.

red u are not gona make many friends being like that.. being confident is one thing but being arrogent is completely out of order :mad: .. u have to expect people to criticise your playing here.. its a guitar forum people come here to listen to other guitarists.. they ask for critique most of which is took in a positive manner.. I know a guy like u here in my town and to be honest if he was as good on guitar as he is at being arrogent he would probably be in a good band by now.. u didn’t say u were going to do your version of the song.. if I remember right u said u were going to LEARN the original song so naturally people are gona compare it to the original!! so get off your high horse and in future have some respect for peoples opinions!! btw its not a bad version of the song needs some more work but its pretty good..

As I said, it wasnt bad. Didnt say it was good though. Your tone is poor owing to poor muting technique. Your note picking is way too slow and inconsistent. Your playing speed expands and shrinks - maybe because you're not playing to a metronome.

The thing about playing guitar is that the last 5% of perfection is the hardest to achieve and you're still very far from 95% perfection.

Moreover I think in the present day and age, Eddie Van Halen is overrated. Tapped triplets - give me a break!

It would be in your best interest to be a bit more humble as a guitarist. Would you laugh at Michael Hedges because he couldn't play Eruption as well as you? It seems somewhat wrong that you would put yourself into a situation where you have to deliver (eruption in a week) and months later you come back and act as though you shouldn't have to suffer some form of criticism. Just lighten up and accept the fact that you couldn't deliver. It happens to all of us, but there's nothing worse than a guitarist that thinks the listeners owe him.

you have talent.....that was NOT even close to eddie....since you probably did several takes and picked the best to post, i would say try again in 5 more months ;)

Blah, love the criticisim though, so we're gonna give it another round. And then another in a few days when my next guitar comes in (yay, number 10.)

Videos this time, oh goodie. Hope you have XviD. Did a few takes, here's two of them. Take two has better tapping. Though I like the bit high on the neck on number one better.

Oh well, best of the worst.

Despite popular belief, what I was doing while the tapping bit was going on is move both hands down the neck at the same time. After watching a few videos of Eddie do his thing, and a few other clones, I saw he didn't do that. I was just making it harder on myself by being a moron when I learned it.

Since the last take I took another good look at the song and changed the way I played it a little bit.

I never said anything I do differently is better, dunno why you guys came up with the idea, I just said it was different.

Anyway, nuff of this bull, time for bed, 1 AM is not a good time of day when work is in 6 hours. :(

EDIT: nand80: Quite right, the last 5% is the hardest. Then again, perfection can only be achieved by the creator. It's fun to try to get the 95% though. :P
