So, in the end, what I did was play a song based off of Eddie's. I'm now happy.

It would be in your best interest to be a bit more humble as a guitarist. Would you laugh at Michael Hedges because he couldn't play Eruption as well as you? It seems somewhat wrong that you would put yourself into a situation where you have to deliver (eruption in a week) and months later you come back and act as though you shouldn't have to suffer some form of criticism. Just lighten up and accept the fact that you couldn't deliver. It happens to all of us, but there's nothing worse than a guitarist that thinks the listeners owe him.
