lol kiddin....since it's an open discussion section i would ask a question that can help me to be more successful spinning on desks....already said i'm an EDM *Trance* Dj too:
So ppl , What do you look for in a DJ?
I would like to know how you people rate djs and why you consider certain Djs better than others....

As For me...as a Girl Dj i find those points the most important for in a Dj:

1- harmonic mixing (includes taste in music too)
2- beatmatching (it was hard to split "1" and "2" but still i take them both very important elements)
3- up-to-date music/promos (it is better to go to an event and enjoy listening to new/unreleased tunes)
4- track selection ( it is better to have a good track selection and not playing the most wanted/Massive tracks at the same time then leaving other tunes till the end....or vice versa)
5- crowd interaction/personality (i find it important too:it will leave the *nostalgia* in each raver spirit after the event finishes ....but i think what i mentioned above would certainely let the crowd jump all over the night)

I don't care that much in the Dj's look and appearance but it's cooler/better to have a fashioning Dj spinning at a gig....however still don't mind since a good music quality is played!

And you?...again what do you look for in a nice Dj ? please list your different points highest to lowest

I'll appreciate your help and opinions...Cheerz! :)

Isn't DJing what people who can't play instruments do to get the girls? :D

You'd have to be pretty bad before anyone noticed I reckon.....

No useful comment, and no apologies for the fact!

It's probably like playing an instrument in it's own way.
I've seen some DJ's that are damned talented.
I guess I just don't find much interest in it because of the style of music they usually use. Crappy rap with drum machines.
I mean, if you wanna beat match some decent rock or something, great.
But as soon as I hear a repeating loop of some crappy music and then some guy talking over it who sounds like he's complaining about something ... that's when I lose interest.

I must admit, I tend to avoid places if I know there's going to be a DJ - mostly because my band's had to play the same venue with some very, very talentless no-hoper's who think turning down the volume every thirty seconds adds to the "atmosphere"...I guess I'm just a little bitter and twisted by past experiences...

In my experience, there's not an awful lot of guitarists who want to/are able to cross over into that sort of area - but, at the end of the day, if it interests you and you get a kick out of it, then there's nothing wrong with it. I just doubt how much of a useful response you'll get from this particular forum regarding your question...

My Idea of a good dj, is the person who says how yall doin?! Shuts up, and puts in the record, and gets a drink. But maybe im just old fashioned... :D
I am Comfortably Numb... :D

most techno music is trash. i think the only time i ever heard techno and was even remotely impressed and interested was when i heard some squarepusher tune....but i believe that's house, not trance.

i will say, though, watching dj disk duel with les claypool from primus was awesome. but that's using spinning as an instrument and not just playing someone else's music in an obnoxious, repetative fashion.
okay...my post is done...goodbye.

Dj'ing, eh? I'll admit I like a few trance artists, but it's usually a hit or miss for me. And in that area it's usually a miss, but I've got my favorites.

well look at portishead....the band manages to use the dj to help create awesome tunes....yet he still scratches like a rap dj...i mean i hate rap and hip hop but then again...i guess its the coordination that the band has...some how the dj spiced things us for their songs... portishead is one amazing band... their music is trip hop....

just my 2 cents

70's rock I guess.
That one goes back a ways.
I'd still like to know what that funny hissing noise is before the song starts.

funny thing is nobody answered that yet... (well except pony)

okay in my opinion, a dj has got to play something unique, or do something while djing like doing flips to make people think "how does he/she do all that and still keep a good beat?

also i like djs who play a variety of sounds, not just one. like hes/shes mixing classic rock with techno with rap with country and it still sounds alright.

then again, i like the djs who make sentences out of different songs, like takes a bunch of different rap records and makes then say " shut the ****/\/ the **** /\/ **** up or ill whoop yo ass biatchjahkg " and like every word is like from a different record.

and then i just like djs that are girls cause theyre hot...

Native Instruments Readies Guitar Rig 2

Native Instruments, is preparing to release Guitar Rig 2, the follow up to their successful guitar processing software/hardware combination, on November 30, 2005. When Guitar Rig debuted, it caused an instant sensation inside and outside the guitar community. Finally there was a comprehensive solution for the guitarist who wanted to delve deeply into processing beyond the four knobs on a stomp pedal. Native Instrument's (NI) inclusion of a hardware pedal rig cemented the deal by offering an all-in-one product that other software manufacturers neglected. Outside the guitar community, electronic musicians were ecstatic that there was finally software which could emulate all those gritty effects which took hours of tweaking to obtain. However, beyond this exciting new release, Guitar Rig 2 reveals the company's strategy for the future.

Rig Kontrol 2 – “Sleek aluminum chassis”

Remember Lexicon's old JamMan delay module which allowed a musician to loop riffs on the fly and then add new loops to build up a massive rocking jam? Well, NI incorporated a JamMan into Guitar Rig 2! Dubbed Loop Machine, it works similar to JamMan allowing a guitarist, drummer or keyboardist to gradually build up entire sections by adding one loop on top of another. Very cool!

However, even with all the enhancements, Guitar Rig 2 is all about the foot controller. Rig Kontrol 2 makes a huge leap forward in technology. It features a 24-bit/96kHz USB 2.0 stereo audio interface and preamplifier with two 1/4" TRS inputs. Yes two! You can now attach two sources to the Rig Kontrol and process them both with the software. Each source has its own gain control with LED signal indicators. The unit also features MIDI I/O and is powered completely by the USB bus.
