hi all,i read the post on choosing and amp that sticky wrote and it is extremely helpful in my choosing the right am for me, i am a begginner player and i have a mexican strat, what kind of upgrades can i do to it in order for it to preform much better,of course i want to spend as little as possible.btw ive looked and effects pedals and ordered the zoom gfx-1. i hope that its a pretty good unit as well as an AUDIO TECHNICA ATW-201/G VHF WIRELESS GUITAR SYSTEM, is that a decent one for a begginner, thanks a bunch.

for a mex strat, get new tuning pegs, then new pickups, if your willing to spend it. A signal or sound is only as good as its weakest link, dont matter what u have if your guitar is going outta tune or sounds like crap.
WWSD? What would stevie do?

These are some of my favorite strat upgrades.

1) New Pickups, I would suggest the basic Fender Hot Noisless. There's absolutely no hum, and they have a great clean tone and sound awesome with some overdrive or distortion.

2) Tuning Upgrades: New tuning pegs, locking, american standard. Add 2 extra springs to the tremolo, to make a total of 5 springs, helps tuning stability w/ the tremolo. If you want to get fancy, get the gold plated tuners, really doesn't make a difference but there so shiny!

I'd definetely go for the spring upgrade in the rear trem cavity as mentioned above, also look at new pickups from Kinman, EMG, Fender and LACE and if you want to go further have a look at the TusQ nuts from Graph Tech and Sperzel locking machines for even greater tuning stability especially if you're using the tremelo.

i added 2 extra springs in it when i got it, deffinatly help the stability, and will check into the hot pups,
one of the things i dont like about it is ,lets say i play an e chord, when i stum the strings , it sounds like one of the strings isnt getting a good note, but i hold the chord just like i should, another example is , when i put a capo on a fret and strum, one of the stings isnt getting the note, like its not holding the string all the way down, ive moved it around on the fret and next to the fret and still it does it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,is there and thing i can do to get the notes to play easier?,kinda like i have to put the ninja death grip on them to get them to get the note right,, i am using the fender strings, and am considering a new set to try, but not sure whats best or good for my mexistrat, a pal of mine gave me a set of the ace frehley strings, i may try those when my fender strings need replaced,,,,,,,,,,,,,,p.s. any thoughts on the zoom gfx-1 effects processor? thanks again

That's a neck or fret problem usually easy to fix with a truss rod or bridge adjustment.

This is great! It's like the Mexistrat club!llol. but my point is, like the others said, what i would moistly change, is the Pickups. Im about to change mine to Fender Texas pups. Im so excited
