how exactly is he a god? He is good yes, but a ton of his songs are covers and a lot of guitarists that are better than him. i can think of 10 off the bat.
dimebag, randy rhoads, zakk wylde, slash, kerry king, mick thompson, tommi iommi, jimmy page, eddie van halen, and kirk hammett there is a lot more too, those are just a small feild. .....u kno what, i think ive said enough im only namin one feild too, metal. Theres lennon clapton, townsend, collins and rossington, etc
and ndont think im biased towards metal, because im not even that HUGE of a fan of it, classic rock, like hendrix, is my favorite. he might be the best of his time, but certainly no god
my friend says steve vai

Ok first off...most are technically better than him because they had him and other people to learn off of!!! The only influences he had were buddy guy, howlin wolf, robert johnson, people of that sort, and he turned in to something absolutely different as where : dimebag, randy rhoads, zakk wylde, slash, kerry king, mick thompson, tommi iommi, jimmy page, eddie van halen, and kirk hammett . All started of with rock or metal influences and turned it to guess what...More of the same thing with a little variation. But Jimi was all original! before him there was no divebomb on the whammy bar, vicious wah solos, prominent lead guitar, use of modulation effects (univibe, rotary speaker, wah, flanging some.) And he accomplished this in under 3 maybe 4 years with something like 4-5 albums.
And by the way if you want to talk of cover songs, all of his were completely original interpretations.
P.s. Jimmy page didn't do cover songs, he blatently stole/ plagiarized not all but most of led zepps hits.
I am Comfortably Numb... :D

yes, i believe hendrix is a good guitarist, but not THE best, maybe the best of his time, the fact that guitarists led from his example doesnt mean hes the god, its just he was the best then so they led from his example and created new music and surpassed him

Ok first of all you shouldn't compare Metal guitarists to Blues and Blues Rock Guitarist, and if you knew anything about Guitar you would know that.
Most of the Guitarist you mentioned practiced and studied for years at Universitys and Private Lessons and such.
but Hendrix was Self taught which makes him really Increadible in what he accomplish in just a few years.
Sure he isn't anywhere near as technical as people like Vai or Van Halen but Hendrix is one special Player.
He was better at Improvising than anyone ever, Hands Down and he was WAYYYYYYYYYY ahead of his time.
Second, Jimmy Page better than Hendrix? HAHAHA I don't think so.
Come on man, Page is a great guitarist but IMO he can't even come close to some of the stuff Hendrix did. Page was a little better technically and at his Best came close to imitating Hendrix but seriously dude he wasn't better.
And when it comes to Guitar playing Lennon shouldn't even be Mentioned in the Same sentence as Hendrix,
PS I have never heard of a guitarist named Tommi Iommi.

i definitely agree that hendrix is a great guitar player, in regards to lennon, it was the songwriting ability that lennon cud do which hendrix cudnt too much.
and tony iommi was my friend typin so u cant really hold that one against me. and as far as metal to rock, metral is just a branch off of it, to telll the truth, im not totally in metal like i stated before, i like classic rock by zep floyd and others, the fact is, jimi is a great guitarist who cov ered songs and interpreted thru aciid trips. hes the best of his time but again, not the god of rock an roll, no one can claim that title. despite what a lot of people think, there are choices and there are ties.
Just as there is always a bigger fish, there is always a better guitarist

Actually Steve Vai attended the Berklee College of Music,
Kirk Hammett took lessons from Joe Santriani and I would think he knows a thing or two about theory,
And Eddie van halen is classically trained pianist so I'm pretty sure he know a little theory.
And that is just off the top of my head

Steve Vai wasnt on the list
Kirk Hammet knows nothing... All of his solos are off key all the time. Satriani didnt teach him theory, he taught him technique, style and flare. (and how to get groupies :D )
Van Halen does not know anything, and I am sure of that. Look at the solo for I am the One. All his stuff is wanked up (Eruption). Even though he is good, hes noting but a waker. And there is a difference between reading music (which just about everone knows) and actually implying music theory to your instument. I can read music and play some basic Bach on piano, but that doesnt mean I can compose or even relate to the music. The tapping licks in Van Halen's stuff is classical, but its basically old appregios from the Brach era of music.
...but Halen is one of my favorite guitarists ;)
lol my bad about Tommi. Too fast of reader... :p

Implying music theory to your instrument? What's that?
Anyhow, yes, VH is actually very familiar with music theory. There's a difference between playing piano and being a concert pianist.
If by Brach you mean Bach, I have no clue what you're talking about as far as the arpeggios go. The arpeggios VH taps are just arpeggios. They don't belong to any era of music. (That era is "Baroque," by the way)

Oh, also Randy Rhodes knows a lot about music theory and played classical guitar professionally before he joined Ozzy's group. His composition "Dee" is an example of his work.
