Just as there is always a bigger fish, there is always a better guitarist

Ok dude, WHY do you mention Lennon at all??!!! NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY regards him as a great guitarist at all. He was strictly a great songwriter! And if you want to talk about people," covering songs through acid trips" look at half of those people you named and tell me they weren't stoned, drunk, high, or any combination of the three while playing alot of their concerts!!! Another thing !!! Name me 10 songs that hendrix covered that sounded remotely close to the original version!
I am Comfortably Numb... :D

Lest we forget, there are few albums worse than Pink Floyd's earliest few. "Piper at the Gates of Dawn," specifically, springs to mind.

Hendrix after all was the one artist that inspired me to pick up guitar. But before skill I was always drawn to his originality and free spirit. I guess free spirit led him to his death, but im sure he had a lot better time during life than some among the living. That's my take.

>Johnny Winter< was one of the wildest bluesmen to ever rip up the Texas scene. His cover of "Highway 61 Revisited" will guaranteed curl yer toes, son!

His brother Edgar was no slouch either, though he's more of a Jazz sax-cat. You might remember his band from a song called "Frankenstein".

Both brothers bein' albino definitely upped the 'notice' factor.

For me, the ???? comes from the mag reference to Metal. There's some great players on there that might actually feel insulted by that label.

LATS,
I had the pleasure of seeing Johnny Winter along with 10 Years After at Kleinhan's Music Hall in Buffalo sometime between 1969-1970. The man can play.

Hey man, you gotta remember it's a list of the top metal guitarist of all time.
That is probably why Perry is ahead of SRV because Perry's style is a little closer to Metal than SRV, I think ;)

Page is ahead of people like Beck,Clapton and SRV for the same reason.
But if it was any other list, these guys would definitely be in the top 10.

That must'a been awesome! Seeing both Johnny Winter and Alvin Lee in their prime!

I last saw Johnny at the Ottawa Bluesfest 6 years ago. He reminded me of something Eubie Blake said when he was interviewed on his 108th birthday...

"If I'da knowed I was gonna live this long, I would'a took better care of myself!"
