Hey. I am looking to get a distortion/overdrive pedal. I like to play classic rock, like Jimi hendrix, Zepp, Clapton and any other classic rock. Does anyone know of any good pedals to get a tone like this for pretty cheap?($100 at most probably) And i was wondering If anyone had used one of the new DF-7 digitech pedals. They seem great from what I've read, but theres no reviews to back it up. Let me know if you've got any suggestions.

I think your lookin at an Ibanez Ts-9 tubescreamer, or a Boss BD-2 Bluesdriver.

I have both a tubescreamer and a blues driver and I would recommend the Tubescreamer hands down. Cheaper and better.

The MXR ZW-44 (Wylde Overdrive) does a great job too. It's similar to a Boss SD-1, but with a little more grit when cranked. It does a superb job pushing the front end of a cranked tube amp.

Sounds great. The tubescreamer seems like a good choice. That is one of the 7 models of the DF-7 Digitech distortion pedal, and is the same price. Anyone tried the DF-7?

a little out of your price range, but the boss OD-20 can give pretty much every kind of distortion/overdrive sound imaginable. got mine for $150 on music123. it's worth saving up for.

I dunno if i want to spend 150 for the od-20, when the df-7 is basically the same concept as that. Very tempting. I will definitely look into that, especially if i could find one used for cheap possibly. Wanna sell me yours? Also, you can program channels into it right?

but in my opinion it's better then the DF-7, I've never heard a df-7 being used... but the OD-20 uses COSM technology which is the best modeling technology that I have heard so far. I don't know what the df-7's modeling type is though.

the OD-20 has a knob that allows you to adjust your sound from "smooth" to "edge" or anything in between! this knob is great! you can take an overdrive model, set it to smooth and get a nice blues tone, then set it to edge and get some nice crunch out of it. it really is a useful feature.

the OD-20 has models for almost all of the models on the DF-7 and then some! the df-7 has 7 models while the OD-20 has 22.

I'd say to check around on e-bay, because this pedal is definately worth the extra cash!

Why don't you choose the Ibanez TS9DX rather than the TS9? You've got the vintage sound of the TS9 plus 3 other modes (+, Hot & Turbo). If you really want to sound like Hendrix this is what you should looking for: (be prepared to pay $$$$)

Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face
Roger Mayer Octavia Fuzz/Octave
UniVox UniVibe
Vox 847 Wah

.......Yes. And with those would come a hefty price. I'm just looking to get as close as possible without going over the edge on cash. I'm no Jimi Hendrix myself, but would like to get some nice tone to back me up when covering some of his songs. Just as long as its better than my current, DOD Supra distortion ($30 on ebay), I think that i will be fine. :) Also, I like to play some other styles aswell (AC/DC, Clapton, Zepp), so the 22 models of the OD-20 really appeal to me.

Hey. Thanks for the input everyone. I'm gonna pitch in the extra dough to get the OD-20. I'll see how that works. And if i cant get the tone I want with 22 different channels, then I might need to change something other than the type of distortion I use.

yeah bro look for the "sea sick" green overdrive pedal by Ibanez. it's the pedal that Stevie Ray Vaughn used to use...it's still one of the baddest overdrive pedals on the market. and be mindful of the pick up setting...they usually set it to the 4th position of the 2nd position. I like the 4th position for playing rhythm because it gives your tone a lot of testicular fortitude! :) be well man and God bless.

Would that be the ts-9, ts-9 DX, or ts808??? They all look "sea sick" green to me.

SRV used a TS808 forget the TS808 tho, go for a DigiTech bad monkey if thats what sort of overdrive you're looking for.
Bad Monkeys are a mild overdrive similar to the TS-808.

Other than the fact that this thread was started about 2 years ago, I am still looking for a new overdrive. I got the sd-1 and ds-1, but its not really cutting it. I'm looking to upgrade to a BB preamp or Mi Audio blues pro sometime soon.

+1 for the DigiTech Bad Monkey! I bought one about a year ago, and took it back the next day because it was a tone-sucker when it was turned off. Not a True Bypass pedal.

It sounded so wonderful when it was turned on, though, that I went back for a new one a couple of weeks ago. It was only $50 CDN; probably $35 or $40 stateside. And it doesn't sound bad at all when its turned off.

It may not be a true bypass switched circuit, but I think they tweaked it a bit so that it no longer sucks all the detail out of the clean tone when its turned off.

And when its on, its a wonderful thing! The tone controls make this one of the most versatile pedals I've ever auditioned. This is definitely NOT a one-trick pony! Very touch-sensitive at low gain, just like a good tube amp. Smooth and creamy - not fizzy like a DS-1.

Try it- you will like it! :D

Not to sound like a turd, but I can't stand digitech. No matter what they sound like, they look sooo incredibly cheap I can't bare to look at them. Ewwwww...

I myself have an obsession for small(er) companies that put time and effort into each pedal, companies such as, Xotic, Zvex, Fulltone (not as small), Carl Martin, MI Audio, T-Rex... you get the idea. Money doesn't grow on trees, which would assist in the purchase of these beheemoths, but come on... quality is quality.
