Ok, so I was sitting here, taking in a nice dose of Final Fantasy when it hit me. I have a clarinet. So as I'm typing this, Final Fantasy is paused behind me, I've got an assembled clarinet on my lap, and I'm not too sure what to do next. This thing is a loud as hell and I've got a volume to keep after. Any of you know anything about wood winds? I could use some direction at the moment.

Whatever you do, don't eat limes. A friend of mine ate a lime once and BAM!! Two years later. Herpes.

Guess you could check out Fats Waller's "The Minor Drag." That has a kick ass clarinet part in the beginning.

1)Set the clarinet down.

2) Unpause final fantasy

3) Resume in playing final fantasy

I think the only thing that's really intimidating me from getting at it is the volume. This thing's hardly subtle with its presence and I've got a volume level to keep in mind.

Well, as long as it's not late at night...plus, can't you mute it?

Suggested method? Keep in mind, I've never worked with an instrument like this, so this is something fresh to me.

Reeded instruments suck. Trade it for something brass.

A well argued point, sir. Go ahead and rewrite Richard Strauss' "Don Juan" with only brass.

I'm actually biased towards wood wind as far as sound quality goes. There are a few brass though that I do like. I'd like to get a flute some time, but that'll happen when it happens. The irony of this is I'm listening to music with almost entirely brass instruments in it right now.

Added note: I guess I should make it known I didn't actually pay for this thing. I just found it in a store and lock and kept it since.

I played trumpet for 6 years when I was in school. I wish I would've played sax. It's timbre is closer to a guitars. I love the duel in Pink Floyd's Money.
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

I played trombone for 8 years in school and that kicked some major arse. Jazz band was very cool, and I really enjoyed playing marches.

Clarinet players represent!!! I'm 2nd chair in Highschool advanced band. Let's just say I know the instrument. They clarinet has a very large range of sounds. I goes about as low as the saxophone and as about as high as a flute. It's good if you play classical but also has a very jazzy sound. I'd stick with the clarinet, Dont trade for something stupid like a tuba!

Ill go so far to say that I feel sorry for you. Clarinet is probably the pansiest instrument you could play.

Debussy is the composer I happened to be listening to when you went on the rant about how unnecessary the clarinet is.
