The SG is a poorly-executed example of a bad design. The neck-body joint is so weak that this POS axe won't stay in tune, and threatens to self-destruct if it ever falls over. Walk away. The tone can be replicated by any mahogany guitar with decent pickups.
Strats are OK, but don't get caught up in the "America First" BS. The best Strat I've ever played was the 1986 Jap-Strat '62 Re-issue that I eventually sold to pay my rent. The trem sucked out most of the tone, but when I replaced it with a solid brass block and bolted the bridge down tight to the body, that lil' lady could sing! With better pickups and controls, that would have been a keeper.[/font]

I despise SGs. I'm also not a huge strat fan.

You know, I never realised it, but the Lord is right...have you ver seen a second hand sg (not even vintage necessarily) Sg, that hadnt had it's neck re_attatched? Of course not...definately the weakest neck I've come across...and its true...most mohag h-h guitars can sound similar if your work with them.

well Pony, that strat looks mean...and a p-90 in the bridge would probably fix any reservation I have about strats...what a good idea...but it must have needed some routing etc..which I dont like having done (sorry if you mentioned anything like that in the post...I didnt actually read it...just looked at the pictures!).
at the end of the day, I think there is a very good reason why the strat is the most popular guitar design...
