I have! Killed this ten point whitetail this morning with a 30-30 at 140 yards.
Mule Deer season starts next week too! :D
That's my daughter in the pic by the way, she will be 2 yrs in dec.

That's a nice buck you got there! 140 yards is no easy shot for a 30-30. I managed to shoot an 8 point at close to 200yds. with my 30-30. I was aiming above it's back, over it's shoulder, and ended up hitting it in the butt :D. It's only bow season here right now. I used to bow hunt, but it bothers my shoulders too bad now. So, I just wait for gun season which openes up in a few weeks. It's about time too! I've been dying to get my freezer full of deer meat again. MMMM! I can taste it now... fried up tenderloin with a seasoned badder, along with some mashed potatoes and gravy, homemade biscuits, and some butter beans. Gun season needs to hurry up and get here!!!!!

BTW, That's a very cute kid too!

Congratulations! I went this morning and passed up a little spike and a few doe, I am trying to hold out till i see a big one. I just got back this evening and didn't see a darn thing, its too windy and it rained a little here though. I also hunt with a 30-30 by the way, but good job on the awesome buck.

I turned my buck in for processing and there was a guy there who got nothing but breakfeast sausage out of a doe. I like the summer sausage the most and the backstrap oh yeah the jerky too and the hamburger. :D

I too yearn for the taste of the fried venison. I got one processed 2 years ago and got a whole bunch of summer sausage, pepperoni, and hard salami sticks, man that stuff is delicious!

I've always wanted to try hunting but I've never had the chance.

A good rule of thumb is that deer should be hit with at least 1k ft-lbs of slaughterpower. The average .30/30 is capable of this within ~200 meters, the .30/(19)06 can do it within ~500 meters, and the .308 should be used within ~475 meters. What this means is that while the .30/30 is a very practical "meat getter" for the distances most hunters are comfortable with it does have its limits.

I love firearms way too much.

I love firearms as well. Here are most of my "meat getters". My deer meat getters are the two on the bottom. My baby is the Remington model 700 "Mountain Rifle" .280 bolt action.

Nice collection! Is that 30-30 a marlin? It looks like one. The 700 is sweet. I ordered a new rifle about a month ago and it still hasn't come in. It's a Howa Thumbhole Sporter in .25-06. I like the 30-30 but I agree with Hammurabi that it does have it's limits at certain distances. I would take a shot out to about 200 maybe 250 yards with mine at the max. The 150gr. 30-30 round drops 12 inches at 250 yards then kills off to a 44 inch drop at 300 yards. This is of course if your gun is sighted in at 150 yards. What I really like about the
30-30 round is there is very little recoil, it's very pleasant to shoot.

Thanks man. Now's the perfect time to start. I grew up hunting mostly upland game birds but in the last few years I have really enjoyed deer hunting. I remember my dad always telling me I was too young to go. So I go every chance I get now. Good luck hunting!

Fishing is a great way to spend time with friends. It's much safer to down a few beers while fishing than while hunting.

For Sure! I did some fishing when I lived in Galveston. Mostly Speckled Trout and Red's. Me and some friends would go flounder giggin at night, that was pretty cool. We gigged a big stingray one night so my buddy could use it for shark bait. It was a pretty hairy experience.
