hey all,

been playing guitar for a while but i'm new to this forum. i had a question i was hoping someone could help me with. got a song i'm in the process of learning and there's two chords in it that i'm having trouble finding the shapes for, Dmaj9/F# and Dmaj9/G. While i'm pretty decent at putting most chords together, sometimes i have a little trouble figuring out chords in this type format ( [some chord] / [some note here] )...if that makes sense...was wondering if anyone knew either of these chords or had some advice on how to form these types of chords.

thanks for your time all,

-david

I'm About 95% sure that the Dmaj9/F# chord is like this:

E----------0-------
B----------2-------
G----------2-------
D----------0-------
A----------0-------
E----------2-------

Hope it helps

Yeah, only mute the Gstring instead of doubling the fifth like that...well, then again, it's fine, this isn't four voice writing or anything...

We are dealing with a "Slash Chord".
It`s just another way of voicing out a "Dmaj9 chord".
Because the "F#" is part of the chord anyway.
Dmaj9=[D,F#,A,C#,E]
But you add the "F#" after the slash, to play it on the bass.

e-------9-------------
B-------10--------------
G-------9--------------
D-------12--------------
A-------9--------------
E--------------------
Someday I`ll play like in my dreams.

Again, this is a Slash chord.
It`s a Dmaj9 with a "G" on the bass.
It all begins with the "Dmajor sacale":
D.....E.....F#.....G.....A.....B.....C#.....D.....E.....
1.....2.....3.......4.....5.....6......7.......8.....9.....
Then you take every other note of the scale to make the Dmaj9 chord:
[D,F#,A,C#,E]
Then you add the "G" note, to be played on the bass.

e---------0-----------
B---------3---------3--
G---------6---------6--
D---------4---------4--
A---------0---------4--
E- --------3--------3-----
These are two different shapes for the same chord and there are many more.
Someday I`ll play like in my dreams.
