I've owned this guitar for 5 or 6 months now and it has become my "#1" for recording and live shows. I feel I know the guitar enough to write a good review on it.

This is a 2005 Gibson Les Paul Classic modelled after a 1960. It is vintage sunburst ( looks exactly like Slash's guitar in the "november rain" video ). I bought it new for $2100 (canadian). The guitar came with a "Gibson USA" hardshell case, certificate of authenticity, and some Gibson stuff, such as stickers and picks.

PROS
-Sustain monster. Will sustain forever without any overdrive or pedals or any of that stuff.
-Heavy. I like heavy guitars so this is a pro for me.
-Slim neck. More of a Fender style neck. It is not as chunky as some other Gibsons. It is very smooth and fast.

CONS
-Bridge pickup not hot enough for my liking. It does not overdrive the tubes like my Hot Rails in my Tele.
-Bad tuning. Does not hold tuning well if played hard(which I do). I will be upgrading the tuners by the end of the year.
-Neck Volume Pot Dirty-After about a month the volume pot starting crackling alot. I think this is still under warranty but I've been playing so many shows lately I haven't had time to fix it.

I play through a 4X10 all tube amp and this guitar sounds very full for the amp. It is a perfect combo in my books. Playing "The Rain Song" with the neck pickup gives me chills and jamming to almost anything classic rock on the bridge pickup just makes me want play longer.

im not sure if the classics or the standards come with this but if you dont have it yet you should try out the burstbucker pickups. I played around with a couple gibsons at guitar center and the only one that stood out was the $700 mahogony econo standard. It was the only one with the burstbuckers and they make quite a difference.

The Classic does not come with the Burstbucker pickups. I am weary about changing pickups because I want to keep this guitar, tone wise, as stock as possible. I might have to look into a new bridge pickup if I cannot be satisfied otherwise.

The nut might not be slotted properly. I've heard this is a common problem among newer Les Pauls.

Be sure to post a pic.

I have one and I love it ! I swapped out the stock PUs for the 490R and 498Ts that I used to have on the studio LP. This axe has since grown on me and now is usually the first axe I reach for when noodling ! I also kitted this axe out with Sperzels and Graph-techs and it all works great !

I think it is a honey burst or similar

to date the best sound I have ever gotten was from a TSL100 half stack... and I was using a cheap esp lp-copy guitar to do it... (I was at a shop, and I asked to tryout the guitar, so of course the guy who worked there put me through the best amp in the shop! later I of course took the guitar to an amp identical to mine afterwards only to find it to be pretty bad sounding... but the marshall was sweet!)

oh, and sweet LPs you two!
