Just wondering what's the average amount of time you guys practice a day?

I hear about guys who practice for 10 hours a day. Do you really have to practice for that much to get good. Don't these guys have jobs or school or something?

Hey, well my job has "odd" shifts, which means i get a lot of time free, i play 'at least' 2 hours everyday, on a good day ill play for upto 6 hours (with a break obviously) its like anything, to get good you have to practice, some people may need more than others, depends how quick you pick things up

Practice as long as you have time for. More practice = better player. How good do you want to be?

I usually get about 2 hours in a night on a workday and maybe up to 4-5 on a weekend. Sometimes more, sometimes less.
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

I get about 3 hours per day on average, but it's more what you do with it than how long it is..... :p

I used to sit and noodle all day when I was at school, and now I get more done in an hour than I did back then in a day...

After school and football practice Im usually pushing about 6 before i get home. Plus dinner and tons of hwk I on avg. squeeze in about 1 and a half through the week and 4-5 hours on the weekend. On weekends I space out my playing. Ill play scales and review some theory along with techniques hammer ons and pull offs. Then Ill take a break and play another 2 with the song im working on.

For me, it's all about attitude. Sometimes I might stay up till 2am playin and other times I might only play for 5 minutes in a day. I make sure a play every day though. I also have to be in the right mood/mindset, whatever you want to call it, to learn anything. Sometimes I can look at a tab for an hour and feel frustrated and then, outta nowhere, the next day I will see a different shape or hand position which helps me out alot, then I progress. I've only been playing for a year and I'm alright when it comes to rythym but my soloing needs work.
I am a constant evolving music machine. Oh Man, I just forgot what I was playing. Oh well, on to the next song.

Just play in all your free time and carry a guitar around the house with you.
For life is quite absurd and death's the final word, You must always face the curtain with a bow
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

Besides my music theory class everyday and my advanced guitar class once a week, i try to get an hour in everyday, and that doesn't always happen however

Never been one to have a regimen. The most I would ever play was when I was in a band and we would practice maybe 4-5 hours at the most. Left to my own, I generally don't play much more than 2 hours at a time.

It's comforting to know that not everyone's breaking out the 10 hour a day practices.

Anyone know any good exercises to do when you don't have a guitar handy to make up for not having a lot of time to practice for real.

I have heard that grip master thing works, I used to use an old hand strengther thing you squeeze and strengthens the muscles in your hands and wrist. Even squeezing those stress reliever balls are good for working the muscles in your hand.

Practice when your mind is focused and in good mood , probably 2 hours after you woke up...because your mind is still in the ALPHA state, the period where the mind is in the most clear receptive state, Its still fresh and not yet saturated with other concerns.

You will find out, its more productive if you practice this way even for 2 hours rather than practicing 5 hours without focus..trust me in this, It really works.. ;)
