I think the main thing we have to worry about is flooding. I should be safe from any flooding though. As of right now, it's steadily raining and a little windy. man, I didn't realize how devastating this thing was until I just flipped on the tv. New Orleans must be getting punished for all those good times on bourbon street.

i lived in an apartment, couldn't afford insurance. i saved my les paul, my bassman, and my epi john lennon acoustic....my 4 other guitars are gone. so is my fostex mr8, my washburn 30 watt practice amp, all my vinyl records, my bed, about half my clothes, my nintendo, intellevision, and sega and all games for those systems (basically a ****ton of irreplacable stuff).

i'm gonna try to see what fema can do for me....dunno though.

i don't think people realize exactly how much of a disaster this thing was... i mean, an entire city basically done, a city with a really rich history and music scene nonetheless... with all the evacuations and flooding, no one has jobs to go back to. really, really horrid situation.

i saw some thing on the news where they went to a Hard Rock casino/hotel on the coast, and the newscaster was showing how trashed the place was... totally condemned... and he's like "and look up there, Keith Richard's guitar..." !!!!!! "...and on the floor here, someone's bass..." !!!!!! again, there's this '51 Pass just laying in a puddle, he didn't even have the sense to pick the damned thing up and put it somewhere dry.

i say we organize a guitar salvage operation and find some maps to guitar stores in the area. oh wait, that would be illegal... shoot.

so may people have lost their jobs...

so many people have lost their homes...

but yet let's just go salvage the guitars!
now that's the spirit!!!

only joking... my deepest sympathies go out to you tehplatypus

Oh man. Ilve been reading this thread quietly but am compelled to chime in. Hurricanes have touched me in ways more than windy-- lost the love of my life in Hugo 'way back when. He went down with his sailboat and his dog, and I hope it was a good death for Scotty --At least he was doing what he loved. (aside from me, that is.. heh)

Fast Fwd: I read the news today, oh boy. Platypus, I am so goddam sorry for your losses. Glad you saved a few guitars, at least. I've been through several hurricanes myself -- Iwa (say it 'Eva') in the early 80s was the wildest, and all it got was my lanai furniture.

I can't fathom what Nawlins must be like tonight.

And then we got our lameass 'Leader' -- not offering jack in the way of hope and encouragement and one navy boat that'll be there IN A WEEK
--I can only apologize, again and again, for his brainless futility. It breaks my heart to know how this administration took away the funds that would have built up the levees. Hadta give them way-too-wealthies their fat tax breaks, y'knoooooow BUT this may not be the place for politics, SO..

TO THE GUY that started this thread: I am encouraged to know that you made it through, more or less intact. Scary stuff, that Mama Nature.

Well now that I've gone and made this small noise, it's back to the shadows with me. Play on, everyone-- after this, New Orleans bound to have a whole new kine Blues sound-- ya think?

People are getting rediculous here! I'm ashamed to say I'm from Mississippi. I wont go into that, but just watch the news and you'll see why. Gas is freakin' insaine! There's no gas left here in the town I work, and the town I live in is having to ration all gas. That really sucks, because I have to drive 40 miles to work everyday. The way people are acting around here is just really pissing me off  !

We're out of gas as of today. I luckily filled up yesterday at $2.89/gallon but waited in line 4 cars deep for a pump. That hurricane took out most of our refineries which were located off the gulf. I think it's time to start a panic

Maybe this is the last push of the gas-powered automobile. We'll pretty much be forced into using alternative fuel sources since gas will be unaffordable or too scarce. Kinda like an H-junkie getting clean. The withdrawal will be sickeningly painful, but in the end better off.

I'd love it if we stopped using gas completely so that we'd bankrupt oil tycoons and more importantly OPEC Nations. They're like our drug dealers.
