Hi guys.

I'm trying to recordmy recently completed Telecasters. I have an Audiophile 2496 soundcard and Windows XP.

Applications..Guitar Tracks Pro v 2.01, Cool Edit, Band In a Box.

In Guitar Pro I get a response but it is independant of the fader control. The volume sits at the one level ( and actually records) whether the fader is full on, full off, or anywhere else.

In Band in a Box I can't get anytrhing.

Cool Edit records but at a level almost impossible to hear.

Band in a Box would be good because I could noodle over a progression or two with existing backing rather than make my own or just record unaccompanied riffs.

Buy hey! I'll take anything that works!!

TIA

I can't give you a specific answer cause I don't use the software you have.. I'm also on a Mac which makes it even more difficult.
However, when I record in Cubase, the input level has to be adjusted from outside the computer using a Mixer. There's an incoming volume level in the system software and a choice between CD/Line/Mic but I always leave it to Line and at full volume.

In Cubase, I click 'monitor' in one of the faders, and adjust my external mixer until it peaks as high as possible.
Then I adjust the master volume so that the music mixes with the guitar.

Sorry it ain't much help, but you may need a way to control your guitar volume externally.

Thanks. I understand.

So would miking my amp work?

Would the headphone socket on my amp plug right into sound card OK?

Never take the output from the headphone amp because it's amplified.
(Unless you like lots of noise and distortion)

A mic might help cause you can adjust the volume on your amp.
Really what you need though is a small mixer to go between your guitar and amp so you can ajust the volume of instruments going into the computer.
You could also use a multi effects unit with a volume control.
