yeah, I'm right there with ya.
Stuff like this is too complex to discuss in just a few paragraphs.
You try to get your point across using analogies or whatever but then you end up just insulting somebody or saying the wrong thing.
Personally, I'm outa here on this topic from now on. I don't have the time to sit around for an hour researching facts and composing information and it's too easy in long message for people to take a quote out of context.
btw: in case anyone was offended by my comment about the CN tower vs. Twin Tower thing, majorly sorry. It was a hasty response to a comment somebody made and I've had it suggested by other members here that I was out of line. I probably was. (my censorship meter doesn't work too good sometimes)
The whole 9/11 thing is too touchy a subject to play around with & I should have been more concious of the effect my words might have on people directly involved in it.

Our political system is so dysfunctional that two of our provinces pretty much decide who runs our federal government, regardless of what the rest of the country wants or needs. Please don't think that the corrupt socialists that hold power are truly representative of my country's people.
The CN tower is indeed on the terrorist's list of possible targets, along with the Parliament buildings, and all manner of critical infrastructure. They just haven't got 'round to us yet. But they will. And when it happens, the brainwashed masses are likely to bleat "Why us? - We're so nice!"[/font] :p

I've got you beat... a government laboratory, no more then a mile away from my house, actually, it's where my dad works, was on the terrorists list of possible targets.
actually, that place just scares me, if you take one step over the white line without the proper clearance, and the guards can and will shoot you with the fricken ak-47's that they carry around.

The problem with being the biggest dog on the block is you've probably got more fleas than anyone else.

Some of those pictures looked fake.
I don't trust any poles or really anything that the news says. All those stats are pretty much made up. Have any of you ever been asked to be in any of those survey? The mass media is just one tool the government uses to brain wash us. The news is not to be viewed as fact. The news is pretty much one person reporting and giving his/her opinion on an issue. They report on there perspective. If you want to know what is really going on, see what the people that are directly involved in a certain situation have to say about what is going on. Go to the source, not an outsider who pushes their views on you.

Considering how little support our government is getting from our media, I really don't see how the government is using it "as a tool to brainwash us."
I do however agree that reporters' personal opinions make it too much into their work -- and it's as much about what facts are omitted as what is stated.
For instance, in the case of the Iraq war, we are constantly barraged with the number of casualties that our troops have taken; yet we rarely hear about what they have accomplished... how are we to form an honest opinion about what is going on when we don't know what our soldiers are dying for? Or how few are dying compared to past wars, or how much better at killing insurgents our troops are than the insurgents are at killing them?
These are all important considerations, not just the number killed or wounded.
So, yes... it is best to investigate for yourself and get as much first hand information as you can... but then again, most people don't have the time or ambition to do that.
