Electric strings are made with steel wire that will work well with the magnetic properties of pickups. Acoustic guitar strings have a steel wire core. but the wrapping wire is usually bronze or phosphor-bronze to get the best tone. You can use lighter gauge acoustic strings to make it easier to play, but the guitar must be adjusted to work with light strings. Electric strings will also work, but they won't sound as good, and the guitar will still need to be set up properly.

You may as well start with regular acoustic strings anyway, you're fingers will get used to it quicker than you think, and then when you do move to electric, it'll be a piece of cake.
And God said, 'Let there be rock!'

I started out with an electric and my amp didn't even work all the time. So I had to listen to my guitar without any amplification and it sounded crappy. You could imagine how my fingers must of felt as a beginner on steel strings. I tried to push down and strum harder to get a better noise but my fingers ended up paying the price! :(

I was wonder what kind of sound differance is there in steel acoustic and nylon acoustic strings? Does the steel string sound more like an electric guitar? :o :)

steel strings are much brighter than nylon strings.

If your acoustic usually has nylon strings, stick with nylon strings as metal strings may well pull the bridge off.

I have a friend while learning he used electric strings. he siad it made it a little easier from the start like crawling before you walk.

he said the sound was not quite as good. but told me i could get acoustic strings later after i got the basics down.
