GRRR..Alternate Picking.....
Man, Im sitting here trying to learn the beginning to Master Of Puppets and I have just figured out that alternate picking that fast is a bitch...I cant get it..it angers me.. and my short attention span makes learning how to altenate pick this song even harder.

Don't do it if it's making you angry. Typically people get tense and determined when they're angered in such a manner but that just apts them to make more mistakes than they were before. Just take a break and come back later and you'll probably be somewhat surprised, given that you still take practicing and time into consideration. And regarding the short attention span... I forgot what I was going to say.

I use downstrokes (and a little bit of alternate) for the intro to puppetz.
Why do you force yourself to only use alternate picking when using downstrokes is easier?, and even sounds a little bit better too (IMO anyway.)

YAY!! On the Master Of Puppets thread someone said get the tab from MySongBook and get it onto the GuitarPro and wow that help so much! I slowed it down and im increasing the speed by 5, and so far the alternate picking has been cooperative. So if anyones trying to learn this song, i would definatley download guitar pro and then get the MOP tab.

Yeah, that song is pretty hard on some parts. I read one of these threads and decided to print out the tab. There was this one part that seems almost impossible to play.

I just finished playing it. Of course not up to tempo, but none the less I did just play it. I found the hammer on pull off part easier to just slide up a half set and bend the b string to the 19th fret pitch rather than try and cram my available fingers in there though.

It's impossible for the human hand to play Master of Puppets with only downstrokes, that was my point.

You COULD downstroke that beginning descension, but not the part with the flat 2nd.

That's weird, using downstrokes is the only way i can play that part of the song at full speed. I tried playing it just now, the first note is a "normal" downstroke, the 2nd and 3rd notes are a 2-string (downstroke) sweep. I tried alternate picking too, it's not impossible for me to play it like that, but still not as fast as when i use downstrokes.

I figure if that is how it is written then that is how it must be played. What gets me is the hammer on and pull off part. I can't seem to get my fingers to do it no matter how hard I try and concentrate :mad: !
Maybe if someone can record it and post it so I can see how it sounds would be great.
