Man I was lucky if I could string 3 chords together at that age!

Great playing there, it's cool that you both have a common interest. My dad has no interest in music

I agree with Primativ... it's a wonderful thing to have common interests, not only that I imagine you incourage him a lot, which never fails to help.

Awesome playing!

Hey guys, thanks for checking it out. And, thanks for the kind words. He kid amazes me. I'm going to get some of him doing AC/DC shortly too. He can nail Agnus.

It was about a year ago that he watch School Of Rock. The next he came down to my music room and said, "dad do you know how to play Smoke On The RIVER?" I had all I could do to stop laughing. I said, "first of all it's Smoke On The WATER". lol

He practices all the time, he watches videos of Steve, and other lesson type videos on the Internet, plus gets a lot of tab. But, he does practice his butt off. I'm curious to see how he transforms this summer.

I've been teaching him stuff as he wants to learn and he just takes it from there. I've been trying to more formal type lessons to get him ready for jazz band in high school, but he's got another year and a half before that happens. But, I show him chords, chord building, scales, and how scales work against chords. But, he works it on his own. I'm pretty proud of him.

He plays in a band with Juniors in High School right now, and he just got out of 7th grade, man!!! ANd, yes I keep my eye on them all ;)

I took him to see Steve Vai back in April, it was a great experience for both of us.

And, yes it has been a great bonding experience, hopefully it last through his HS years :)

Thanks again.

Oh, if your interested, here's the whole vid. It's 8 minutes at about 12.5MB. I still can't believe he could play this solidly for 8 minutes! He does repeat himself a few time, but jeez...he's only been playing a year.

That was incredible for having played the guitar for only one year, especially at that age. You must be proud gennation.

Wow...one year? That is ridiculous! I can't even play like that after 10 years...a bit sloppy at points, but still better than I could do!

My band is better than yours...

Well, it was quite fun to watch. :) Considering his age and the ammount of time he has been playing, he is damn good. Reminded me of me (not to sound arrogant). I started when I was 13 (I'm 15 now), and I remember such a time when all I could do was play guitar for hours (sometimes 8 at a time or more), just trying to figure out one song. It's kind of funny to look back on that now, and see something that would have taken me a week to learn back then, take me an hour now.

Point is, he is talented, but I want another video, this time no background music, and give the kid a Les Paul why don't ya? Just let the kid loose to see what he comes up with on his own. If he can hold something with no background music for 5 minutes, I will be highly impressed.

I just joined this website today, got the high-bandwidth $5 thing, nice deal, I think it needs a bit more life in here though. One thing I always like seeing is kids that make adults feel scared for whatever position they are in (in this case, guitar playing). Wonder if I should break out the video camera and record some messing around?

Luck to ya kid, ;)

pretty good dude, keep it up, I'de actually like to hear him write a solo of his own, with alot of emotio invloved into it. Give the kid a decently good guitar too. He looks sorta goofy jamming crazy like that on a strat. LoL. yeah write something kid, I'd like to hear what happens then.

Holy feck! That kid nailed that song. You gotta prodigy on your hands mister. I think someone deserves a JEM this Christmas. What effects is he using? That sounds just like Vai's tone.
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

seriously tho dude,

your 13. Even if your the god damn best guitarist in the world, playing covers, your not gonna get anywere. Write some music and solos and stuff. Get good at that too.

I guarentee you that if you can write good music, theres no doubt in my mind... You'll be big.
