hey guys i just found this out my dad showed me. If you do not have a microhone and your computer doesnt have a built in one you can just plug some headphones in you your computers microhone input jack and they work just like a microhone. Pretty spiffy

so you're saying that the headphones will pick up the sound instead of putting out sound?

It works but you may as well use a telephone receiver or a yoghurt pot, a bit of string and a needle / wax cylinder as the sound quality is dreadful.
My instructors page and www.studiotrax.net for all things recording.

Does that mean if I plug my monitor into where a webcam would go, it'll send pictures? :)

actually that's very much true and very fun to do. and if you really get into recording...what you can do is take speakers like headphone speakers or ones that are like...6 to 8 inches and set them up on drums...great way to get an isolated signal.

speakers are the same thing as dynamic microphones except with signal flowing through and out of it. if you really wanted to, you could use an sm57 for a speaker...but who'd want to do that?
okay...my post is done...goodbye.

If you think that's fun, try chopping up some ns10's and use its driver as a mic!

did you solder the wires to the plug correctly? i'd suggest getting an unbalanced quarter inch if you're really gonna try the speaker trick. negative goes to the sleeve and positive goes to the tip.

or are you talking about using headphones and just plugging it into the computer? i don't know if that'd work properly or not because it's two headphones wired up in a stereo pair on a tps 1/8'th inch. probably something like left on the tip and right on the ring and both negatives going to the sleeve. doubt that'd work right for plugging into somewhere and recording...or you gotta speak into the other speaker....not sure.
