i like and use a Korg AX1500G, its got some ace tones, check out a video demo here

It retails at about £130-£150 so it sits nicely in your budget

I own a Digitech GNX4. I don't know how I lived without it. It was roughly $460 US dollars.

It has a built in 8 track recorder, which is very nice for catching certain riffs and licks which many of us seem to forget.

It also has a built in drum machine and metronome. Very awesome as well.

Plenty of effects, amp/cabinet models and even comes with recording software.

The best part is being able to plug it into my computer via USB and recording straight away. The 8 track is awesome for when I'm out practicing with friends. I get a cool idea, hit record and record it. No need to worry about forgetting it.

There is also tons of patches that can be downloaded via the interent. It also supports midi keyboards and even has a mic preamp in it.

Check out: www.digitech.com for more info.
Sometimes I hit notes only dogs can hear.

The Boss GT-8 kills anything digitech or line 6 have to offer as far as sound/effect/tones go...if you need bells n' whistles then the GNX4 might be for you,but its overpriced and the pod xt live is a far better value.

In order...

1.Boss GT-8
2.PODXT Live
3.Digitech GNX4

but it really comes down to why you need it/what purpose it will serve. For me,tone comes first,so I can live without a drum machine and 8-track.It might be different for you.

here is the boss pedal...

Well here is what ive gathered(from a boss forum)

XT Live has...

7 stompboxes

32 amps without Model Packs another 36 with Model Packs Installed

Only 46 out of the 72 a based on real amps the rest are Line 6 Originals

No Customized Amps

No Customized Cabinets

No Acoustic Sim

No Sitar Sim

No Pickup Modeling

4 band parametric EQ

Only 10% of its Parametters can be assigned to the Expression pedal

If you want a alternate Compressor you must sacrifice a Stompbox

No Biphase Effect

No Pitchshifting

No Harmonist

Only One Amp at a time

Cannot control effects with dynamics AKA hardness of picking

Cannot allocate the string that the octaver uses Example - Octaver only on E A D Strings

Only 1 wah type

Cannot set the range of the Wah Wah

Cannot customize the Wah

No Talk Box vowel sounds

Effects have less Parametters for you to tweak

No Effects Placement

The boss not only sounds better to my ears, but the sounds aquired with the boss are more useable than the pods...just my opinion...

Also,it does depend on what you plan on doing with it.If you must have a usb port than the PODXTL may be for you.I use the Boss direct(line out to sound card)and it sounds phenominal, but ive never used a pod for direct recording,so I can't say which sounds better.

I like the Boss effects however, like digitech I think there amp sims are a very long way behind Line 6s.

Have I A/B ed them well yes I have...
Podpro Vs Boss GP20 amp factory Vs GNX2.

I no longer own the GP20 or the GNX2 and use the PodPro all the time.

Make what you will of that.

I do know people who would swap a pod for a GNX in a minuet so I guess taste is the really important factor here.

Moral of the story, one mans meat is another mans poison. Try 'em out and see what suits you !

Remember that you can get a second hand Pod V2 on eBay for about 150 bucks. This is not a floor board however all the sounds are there !!

If you're more interested in the effects, i'd go with the Boss, but if you're more interested in the amp sims, then I'd probably got with a PODxt. However, I cannot say for sure on the last statement, because I've never played the GT-8.

Hey chuck, you got any sound clips you could post or e-mail me? I'm dying to hear what the GT-8 sounds like.
