Latest bit of...well...don't wanna call it shred 'cause I hope I have a little more melodic sense than alot of that genre.

Grew up listening to Lynch, MacAlpine, Vai, Satriani, Malmsteen, Liszt, Beethoven,...even Iron Maiden...

Hopefully after a few years I do have my own style anyway.

All Guitars and Fauex "Bass" played by me.

All weird sounds courtesy of Fruity Loops or warped soundbytes I
downloaded off the internet and made quirky through Goldwave.

Special thanks to jwoo100 for the drums beginning at the 3:02 mark
until no more drums...about the end of the file at 4:00 minutes.

Try POWER DVD or a real piece of software.
WMP, Realplayer, and those little things kill...recordings...muffle them..take away the stereo field.

Sorry 'bout that...I forgot to rename the second link...mp3.

I never use mp3's...usually wave and wma files...better format...I think
most people agree, but not everybody has Windows or WMP...

Everything should work now....

This is great shred, but "melodic sense" doesn't really appear until around 2:30 seconds right before some more fast stuff. And after 3 minutes is pretty nice melodically...but then comes 3:40 on...which is amazing playing, but really no direction. Keep in mind, I'm not trying to belittle your playing, you are a damn good guitarist, just remember that you don't have to sacrifice melodic ideas for speed.

i like it,

but it seems that the begginning note is off with the rythm guitar, I dunno if its planned. Its in the scale, but its a weird not to start on, because once you glide down the guitar it sounds on.

Your really good tho man, keep up the shredding, pretty sick stuff in my book

Yeah....I think the hardest part of playing or composing any type of music,
is coming up with that hook or melody and then expanding on it correctly.
It's still something I'm working on. (Just a few months ago, I started using
a PC to mix and record with, and the PC is really the first time I have been
able to "compose" something.

I spent a few years just listening to Paganinni and Yngwie, and practicing
scales and arpeggios, but when I started "composing", it brought out
the musicality in me, rather than just a bunch of over-practiced scales
and chords, and arps.

Then I heard and really got into wanting to make Tony MacAlpine quality
melodies....like you hear on his Maximum Security album. Not wanting to
become a Mac clone, but the quality of his melodies is just unreal to me.
(Must have been all those years playing as a pianist...Chopin etc.)

Then you have Lynch and his eerie "Scary" quirkiness who just sounds
bad a**.

Like I said...working on it.

BTW, nearly everything I do is improvisation...one take recording and mixing.
So there are a few things I miss, or could have done better, and usually on my next tune I do.

Thanks for the input, constructive critique, and nice comments.

Hmmm...really there is no rythym guitar, but more of a Bass sound I used
from tweaking my Digi RP200. I think I was trying to build up to the proper
accented note in the section you are talking about, instead of hitting it
right off, because to me, that is so obvious...cliche'.

And appreciate you listening and the input.

As far as technicality, you got it. Just need to work on the little things like being a bit more cleaner and not using that much reverb. The tone of your guitar was overpowering the actual substance.

Other than that, you go it

That's because this is the SHORT version. I cut out some stuff. And didn't spend a lot of time editing those cuts...

Hmm....I don't use a whole lotta verb. I do use some mono delay to get
some extra sustain, not an acho, but a sustain.

Anyway, my main problem is not knowing yet the entire spectrum of
the re-cording pallette. In other words, what instrument sits where
in the mix.

Below is an outtro to a tune I did called Fallen.

Same guitar settings...even have a rythym guitar with basically the
same tone as the lead. You can hear both distinctly.

There is one instrument missing...the drums. They are drowned in the
back, as you can barely hear the crash ride.

There is only a limited amount of space that you can put each
instrument and it's tone. Once you master the art of getting
a good to great balance EVERYTIME...then you are onto something.

Haven't got there yet myself....obviously...

Here's a clip from a tune I did for because I liked the movies
Jeepers Creepers.

BTW, the only reason I am posting clips is because the complete tunes
are already over at Guitarist net.

In fact, one of my other ones, Dreams in Nihilistic Glides was top rated
for a while for the whole site. (And I thought fame would never come...)
(Pfffttt...LOL)

Called Propped up on Sticks.

This is just the main melody and part of the solo section.

If I had a decent Processor, I would have liked to have added some
dual sounding guitars, (Pitch shiftr), but the RP200 only sounds
decent on it's pitch settings if you play very very slow, and hit
no flats or sharps, and also don't bend...otherwise it sounds like
an old arcade machine....kinda synthetic. Doesn't sing so much as
beep.
