I'm sitting right here with all of my old band's tracks up on LimeWire. A friend of mine has them hosted on Kazaa. I would rather my music be heard for free than not heard at all, but that choice belongs to myself, my drummer, and my guitarist and nobody else.

If you think MTV's Cribs is representative of musicians in the US, you are very sadly mistaken.

Maybe not all the musicians in the usa , but when we talk about Metallica
i'm pretty damn sure they have *enough* money to buy all those houses and cars you can see on mtv's cribs.

I know for sure that they want to make another album because they are always talking about either being or going back in the studio. As for St. Anger i thought it was good but is wasn't "Metallica". Metallica is my favorite band and kirk is my inspiration for playing guitar but I dont know if i can handle another St. Anger. The biggest thing for me was that it didnt have any solos or very much of anything from Kirk that James couldn't have done himself. Going back to your discussion of Jason. I thought he was good and i really liked his energy. Its just that the band always treated him like he was the "new guy" even when he was with them for years. Also towards the end, they DID alow him to be a part of the songwriting, and thats when the music started to change. The end of the line for me was when i found out he wanted to play with Metallica and ANOTHER band. This is METALLICA!!! This isn't a side project for you to play in when u get bored. He should never have even considered playing with the other band. (thans for reading/sorry to waste ur time)

As an outside observer and not a fan, I like the premise of St. Anger and what they were trying to say with the album.

But I think it was really bad timing for them to do it.

1). Metallica basslines are not especially tough. Even Cliff's. I don't see how Jason having a side project takes much of anything away from Metallica. If anything, for me, it would make it easier for me to go pound out whatever the other guys wanted me to do.

2). If I'm playing with three guys who consistantly marginalize my role in a project, I'm going to need to do something on the side to make sure that my creative energies can go somewhere.

Otherwise, I'd burn out and end up quitting anyway.

Dude i have to thank you!! :D

by posting this u saved me a great deal of time. as my name kind oif hints :p Hammett is my initial inspriartion as a guitarist, same as ureself, n wen i heard St. Anger, i was so let down. my first thought was, they spent too much time with bands like Limp Bizkit, n S.O.A.D. St.Anger isn't metallica. the name is kinda fitting though as, a fan of Metallica, i was angered to 'hear' that album. and as others have posted, everything after the black album has been a let down. Kirk's squeeling wah solos, James' crushing riffs, and lars precision drummin is what Metallica was all about. 'Battery' is the ultimte example of it.

to get to new stuff by metallica a DVD (Disappointing video Documentary) of how Metallica created St.Anger has been released in the u.k.

If they do release a new album, i won't rush out to buy it until i know if it's worth it.

personally, i think Hammett has lost it. i'm sorry to say this, as he is an inspiration, but comapared the live binge dvd, he was a god back then
My amp is a weapon of mas DISTORTION!!!!

I have to argue the point that Hammett has lost it...I just saw Metallica live this past September, and...to be honest...I wasn't sure I wanted to go...I thought maybe they were washed up...that they couldn't shred anymore. Dureing that concert they played for almost 2.5 hours...and they only played two songs from St. Anger and it was awesome they still got it...they just aren't utilizing it for some odd...unmetal reason.

their record company is probabily telling them they have to suck as much as the other bands out there now a days or their in breach of contract. Thats my theory.
