Slash,
Because,
He is the most iconic insofar as image - Top Hat, Les Pauls, Mad hair.
His riffs/songs and solos are some of most respected in rock.
Hes humble and down to earth despite being a god to millions!!

My favourite guitarist has won guitarist of the year 5 times, is exceptionally creative, damn fast and in my opinion the best in the world in terms of speed, technique and creativity. He is...
Kirk Hammett from Metallica.
Now before you send me an essay dissing the guy, listen to Master of Puppets, the entire album, the guy was a kid then and those leads are styling. Then who can deny One from Justice for All? And what about the S&M version of One? Dude this guy rocks! If you wanna dis him, name the guitarist, the band and the song so I can have a listen and be corrected if I am wrong. The man was taught by Satriani and now leaves him hanging.

I won't stand for that kind of name calling. I like a lot of Kirk Hammet's work, but he is a repeptitive, predictable guitarist and one of the easiest in the worl to imitate because of that. Satriani, I must say, has written far more athletic, compositionally sound pieces musically speaking.

John Petrucci from Dream Theater. Dream Threater did a cover of the ENTIRE M.O.P. album and John kicks Kirk in soo many ways. It's a bootleg CD, so good luck finding it.
The solo One is only a really cool solo to Metallica fans cause Kirk taps. Thats why it sounds blazing fast, other than that, its an average shed solo.
And Joe Satriani did teach Kirk Hammet. He also taught his most prized student...Steve Vai. Which IMO, kills Kirk....
Joe didnt teach Kirk how to play guitar BTW, he only taught him between the CD's AJFA and LOAD.
After the CD LOAD, Metallica isnt even considered Heavy Metal, just 40 year old rockers with receding hair lines.

Kirk isnt one of the most respected guitarists out there... most other guitar players think hes a one trick pony... pentantonic licks with wah!!
# 18
Well, not to put a damper on the Hammett bashing, but Seb did say 'name the guitarist, the band and the song so I can have a listen and be corrected if I am wrong'. Is no one here up to the challenge, or is everyone locked in "Bash Mode"?
... and that's all I have to say about that.
