tube or valve? They're the same thing. What style's are you going to be playing through it? Will you be using effects or straight in. I have a Peavey Classic 50 2x12 50 watt tube combo that is great for almost anything if you know how to set it right. You can find one used for the price you're going for.

i have a really nice Vox AC30 which is (of course :D ) a tube amp.
i think pretty much any vox amps will do you a good turn as all the ones i have ever played of theirs have been good.

you might want to look out for a AD60 as these are pretty good and have effects built into them. check out the website (voxamps.com i think  )
enjoy :D

Maybe u mean solid state or tube. If thats the case it depends on what for. I have a tube amp with 80 watts. While sound is sweet and smooth, the fact is i can never really drive it into a great sound cuz i live in a townhouse at school. If i could i would jack it up to 6-8 so i can get a nice break up but thats not possible. At low levels im just wasting tubes and money cuz it doesnt sound all that great. Solid state on the other hand sounds pretty much the same at most levels and so its good for the bedroom blues. But i would go tubes if u get the chance. I would rather have a 20 watt tube amp then a 150 watt solid state with all the frills.
WWSD? What would stevie do?

Valve or tube? Yes, please.

You might look into Peavey, Engl, Crate (with the caution that they're notorious for reliability issues), or Marshall. Mesa/Boogie is a classic, but it's more expensive than I can afford.

Probably the most popular tube amps in that range are the Fender Blues Junior, Peavey Classic 30 or 50 and Traynor (Yorkville)20 or 40 and I have heard from alot of people that say they love the Fender Pro-Jr. especially when played through a larger cabinet.........

There are plenty of nice tube amps out there...

Important detail, what kind of music do you play?

i have to agree that the hot rod deville rocks...i actually prefer the 4 10 tto the 2 12 but with todays "miking everything" youll find that 50 watts is almost overkill on stage, but i digress stick with the glass jeff

With those styles, I would defanately suggest either the Peavey Classic 50 2x12 or 4x10, or the Fender Hot rod amps. Both are similar, but still enough difference to give you different flavours. Try them both if you can, and I'm sure you'll be happy with one of them. Also, Traynor (Yorkville) make's some great tube amps in that price range. To give you an idea of how loud the Classic 50 2x12 can be, my band just played an outdoor gig at a party and all I used was my amp's volume, no micing or anything, and I didn't even have it cut up near about as loud as it will go. If you're looking for something a little smaller, try out the Classic 30, Fender Blues Jr., and/or Traynor YCV20.

BTW, sorry for assuming you weren't sure of the difference with your question. I didn't mean to sound like an a** if that's how you took it :o

tube all the way. i play out of 2 blues deville's and a blues deluxe and they are awesome for that pricerange. what type of music is your preference? those are reasonable amps for that price range. i may be looking to get rid of one. think about it.
