I want this thread to be kind of your top nine guitarist based on different categories. I dont want this to be your favorites but the respectfully best. Here are the categories: feeling, speed, technicallity, songwriting, originality, heavyness, slide, blues, and overall.

Feeling: David Gilmour
Speed: Yngwie, or Michael Angelo
Technicality/Craziness: Vai, or Gilbert
Songwriting: Eddie
Originality: Eddie, Yngwie
Heavyness: Hammett/Hetfeild, Angus/Malcom, Tony Iommi, lthough Children of Bodom's Guitarist is pretty damn heavy,
Slide: Definitely Duane Allman, or Derek Trucks
Blues: SRV
Overall Best Guitarist: Steve Vai, he can to anything.

Originality: definately not jimmy page or jack white(see: plagerism; see also: original blues artists they ripped off). but i'd have to go with probably frank zappa.
Heavyness: angus young (sorry, gotta go old school...ac/dc are one of the bands that invented heavyness)
Slide: duane allman or maybe junior brown.
Blues: john lee hooker or srv.
Overall Best Guitarist: there is none.

agreed........except the part about liking satriani better....i find him to be in the same realm of amazing mediocrity. great player....just comes off as mediocre and unimpressive inspite of all the impressiveness in what's done.
okay...my post is done...goodbye.

and i have their first album if anyone wants to hear the music from the original incarnation of the group....which was basically the same group but with a different singer (terrence instead of phil). and they didn't change their sound when they got phil either....it was i think either an album or two afterwards.
