Epiphone...false advertisers.
Well, I started on my Firebird refinish project...laboring for hours to strip the horrid red paint...only to discover that their "all mahogony" guitar has a layer of mahogony glued over god knows what...and a maple neck. Anywhere you look on the net...even Epiphone's website says mahog. body and mahog. neck. So, I wrote to Gibson's customer relations dept. and they wrote back.."sorry about your disappointment, Epiphone is working to correct this spec change." B.S., I say B.S.!!! I am going to get rid of the damn thing and just buy a Gibson and be done with it.

If it was gibson that did it to you, why support them and buy another one? With the cost, i could be another guitar that was just as good and didnt jerk me around.

Ironic indeed...I am going to buy an older Gibson, so I won't be paying shelf price. I just really like the feel of the Firebird...I tried playing a Fender Mustang and the thing just felt so tiny......I like the full scale Rickenbacker guitars as well. I do, however, understand and appreciate your comment.

Does the advertisement say solid mahogany body? If it just says mahogany body, then they did nothing wrong.....I'm going to go to Epiphones website to check that out.....

Okay, I looked at the Epiphone site..It didn't say the body was solid Mahogany, it just said Mahogany (unless I missed something). While this may be mis-leading, it's not something someone can sue them over.

It is very misleading...the catalog and website both have the specs as
body material: mahogany
neck material: mahogany
the body is partly mahogany, but the neck is all maple...
I wouldn't try to sue Epiphone over this...the guitar is only worth, maybe, $400 at best...However this threat may persuade them to do something about it.

i dunno i would put in a pretty serious threat of sueing see if i could get them to just send me a check to avoide a lawsuit or something. ask for either a refund or like a couple hundred bucks or something atleast?

does Jfrick work PR over at the Epiphone sweatshop?
the fact that it is maple only bothers me because 1)
a Firebird shouldn't have any maple in it to began
with(at least for the last 40+ years)especially if they claim it is mahogany...maple necks work fine with bolt-on Fenders, and the like.

2) A translucent refinish just wouldn't look right with 2 woods that
are so characteristicly different...
I just realized that Epiphone sprays the entire neck black
on their "vintage sunburst" model as well...cover up that maple.
my best friends mother owns a law firm...but, I don't want to sue them...it may cost one of the overworked Korean
women their livelyhood.

No, I don't even like Epiphone guitars. They're built too cheaply.... I was just saying there is no basis for a lawsuit like Jolly had mentioned, well, except for the maple neck thing.
Did you buy that guitar brand new??? If not, the neck may not be the original neck. What year is it? They may have changed materials for that guitar at some point.

DONT even thing about sueing anyone. The world has gone crazy with lawsuits and what not. People sueing cigarette companys when they get cancer! A burgler in the UK successfully suied the occupants of a house he burgled because he injured himself escaping over there shoddy back fence!
Seriously!! That really annoys me!! People looking for an easy ride or way to fortune!
Anyway, Epis suck man! Gibsons are true quality!! Only a Gibson is good anough. And they arent overpriced in the slightest!!
