Vai Satch Yngwie Gilbert????

Steve Vai. I say Vai because he is so diverse with his style. Not many virtuoso's can play blues with as much feeling as Vai can. He uses both Eastern and Western music styles....Yngwie is probably the fastest (or Michael Angelo) but Vai's playing has so much feeling in it...To me he's the master of the guitar.

Timmons is good, but i dont know if he is quite up there with those guys though. It is basically to hard to say anyone of these guys are better than another. My favorite is Satch though, and my least favorite is Gilbert, because his shred gets a little old. But some may say yngwie's shred does too, which i would disagree, Yngwie plays alot of Classical Nylon acoustic, and makes alot of guests appearances on cd's, in whcih he plays with lots of feel. ( Such as Plant X).
It is just too hard to tell.

I'm kinda tired of hearing about all 4 of em.
It's like, there are other guitarists out there ya know.
I'm willing to bet there's somebody in a basement somewhere who blows all those guys away but we never hear about him cause all people can ever talk about are guitar players that are signed to labels.

I dunno...I kind of doubt there's some guy in a basement who has the musical ideas and compositional genius of Satch and Vai, coupled with the Technical ability.

Why not?
You'd never know cause you never get a chance to hear them.

My opinions based on different abilities....
Feeling: David Gilmour
Technicallity: Steve Vai
Speed: Yngwie or Michael Angelo
Heaviness: James Hetfield or Tony Iommi
Jazz: Al Di Meola
Blues: BB King
Overall: Steve Vai, like I've mentioned before, he can do it all.....

Idk what your sayin..... if you are saying VAi, satch, yngwie and gilbert are overrated you need to take another look. and these guys get hardly any credit nowadays by nonguitarists. Seriously ask your friends who dont play guitar if they know who yngwie malmsteen is and ask them if they know any of his songs.... These guys may be made to be "great" gutiarist and may be alittle overrated , but in the real "non guitarist world" these guys arent **** adn they are highly underrated as musicians. Bottom line these guys kick ass. Long live shred

Well, if you're tired of them I'd suggest www.greghowe.com Some cool samples from his latest cd...
Also, as far as "basement" or unsigned players go, check out www.chadcoggin.com . Watch the "Among the Living" video and listen to the song "Away" ... loads of technique and feel. He also has done several short, but extremely helpful instructional videos.

Yes, but THAT kind of genius apparent in Satriani and Vai? I just don't think it happens very often.

I absolutely love Satch and Vai. My favorite guitarist always oscillates between those two. However, an extremely talented, and sadly, dearly departed virtuoso has neglected to have been mentioned on this thread. Y'all ever hear of Shawn Lane? Get his "Powers of 10" album and you will be blown away. I don't really know what I can say about his music, but it's sad he wasn't mega-famous like Vai and Satch (even though they're not really famous outside our little guitar circle here).
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.
