Just curious which version of this tune is better:
Version #1 Vocals by K. Taylor "Schmange"

Version #2 Vocals by Duncan Wheeler - "Imaginary Band"

Many thanks for any opinions
Listening Pose: Which version is better??

Sorry! Whew! Calm down there, son!
OK, I listened to them both, and I would definitely say that your vocals are better. Duncan's vocals are probably technically better, he has a larger range than you and whatnot, but the tone of his voice is not at all interesting. The version with your voice has a little more "mystery" to it; it's just simply more interesting to lsten to. Perhaps because he didn't write the lyrics he wasn't inspired to put meaning into the words.
Anyways, my vote is for your vocal version, and it's a hearty vote at that.
Oh, and a little note, although you probably won't end up doing this, I would add a little more buildup to the outro solo, maybe like a little drum roll or something. Other than that, the song is pretty cool; I like it much better than when you posted it the first time (probably a year or so ago).

... and that's all I have to say about that.

ok..many thanks for your opinion.
I felt the same way at first.... then I listened to Duncans version a few times and got used to it more....
I guess I'm still smarting from the derogatory put downs from some guys who said I sounded like a perverted old uncle out ot to molest little girls or something....
Origininally the vocals were meant to be an octave higher so I figured I'd give Duncun a shot & see what it sound like.....
His versions only a first take and ideally I'd like to travel to England and work on the vox in person.... but what the hey..... it's an alternative vocal for those of ya that don't like my deep vox.
Heck.... it's worth a shot.

Ooo, Schmange you haunting-voiced MAN!!! Almost has an evil ring to it. You know what you sound like? A Disney movie villain! Not that that's bad, actually, it's quite good...hahaha, I recognized a lick from the moog boog, that was the same riff! You did it again at 2:29! Well, reduce, reuse, recycle, as I always say! I can just feel the solo comin'...WEEEEEE!!! Almost sounds like it could be the new Megaman theme song. I like this song, dude. Now the other version.
I really like that breath at the beginning of these by the way. This guy's voice is kinda nasaly...A couple more takes and this could kick some serious ass! How bout this? Do a duet with this cat! I think it would be really interesting and cool to hear your voices harmonize...Yeah, this guy has a kickass voice once he warms up! You guys should DEFINITELY make this a duet. I mean, with his voice able to do what he's doing, and yours being so haunting the way you sing it, it could be friggin' EPIC!

Part of the problem is doing the vocals 3000 miles away. He's in England and my female vocalist is in California.
It's hard to assemble a bunch of takes.
They're talent is definitely worth stickin with tho..... when I hear this song by Derek that was praised by Rolling Stone I was convinced that he'd be capable of way more in the future...

I pretty much convinced myself that with a little more experience and studio time he could be a hell of a musician. He does all the music himself and we're working together to write some new songs. I'm redoing the bed tracks for this one ...soon as I get a chance

I think the other guys vocals are better for this song. I think they fit the overall syth and guitar sound better.
But my main problem with the song is the length. It really could be edited down a bit.
The song has a lot of good ideas in it though. It just needs to cut the fat if you know what I mean.

I really liked both versions
duncans voice reminds me of Layne Stanleys voice from alice in chains
