FX thru clean channel
If you use FX but use the clean channel on your amp, how much does your amp affect the sound? Will the FX be the dominating sound or will your amp still rule?

With time-based effects like reverb, echo, flanging, or chorusing, most of the sound quality will depend on your axe & amp.
Adding distortion from your XF will definitely make the box dominate your sound.

Plus it depends on how you have it all rigged up, if the guitar goes through the effects then to the main input of the amp then your sound is pretty much based solely upon the effects, however if the guitar goes straight to the main input of the amp and you utilize the FX loop of your amp then your amps sounds rings true with the effects added on top

I've been fiddling around and if I put my geetar thru the fx machine and then into the amp and use the clean channel it sounds much better than my old amp so the amp must help alot but the sound is still the fx machine. I suppose it's like playing cd's on different hi-fi's and now I have a better hi-fi.
I'd ditch the FX machine in favour of some pedals but I'm scared that they won't live up to my expectations and I'll wish I hadn't. My FX machine has so many things on it and I can get some good sounds so I think I'd be daft to get rid.

Since FX sounds different if played through different amp models , then the amp will always (slightly or significantly) affect your overall tone.
