Description

What's up? It's Mike from Guitar Tricks, with a blues lead showcase.

This one draws inspiration from players like Hound Dog Taylor, Muddy Waters, and if you can imagine Elmore James getting stung by bees.

Instead of perfection, this is all about that ugly, honking, nasty vibe. It's slow, sweaty, and angry: like something you'd hear in a late-night bar scene that goes on way too long in a David Lynch film.

For this style, you wanna be rough around the edges. Don't worry too much about strict timing -- play it loose and sloppy. We don't want precise playing, so it's OK to even go out of tune with your bends.

I'm using a Les Paul through a Tweed style amp, with some fuzz so it sounds like the speakers are blown out. It's too easy with our modern gear to be too clean and controlled, so every scrape and buzz and string rattle adds to the tone we want.

So grab your motel key and your bad luck... and let's get into it.
