Hi, I'm Dave with Guitar Tricks. Van Halen’s guitar playing style and music has inspired more guitarists to explore beyond the standard pentatonic and diatonic scale licks and riffs than any other guitarist. At a time when disco and punk ruled the airwaves the band Van Halen almost single handedly revived the rock scene. Today we're going to uncover many of Edward Van Halen's signature licks and tricks from the first six VH albums, which feature David Lee Roth on vocals. Using two VH inspired mini-songs and a stand alone guitar solo I'll walk you through many of his classic moves including a fast boogie rhythm, two hand tapping, a solo using the MXR Phase 90, hybrid picking, and palm muting triads.
